and shortfall <strong>in</strong> comparison to the present availability will be viewed.<br />

With the above data / <strong>in</strong>formation and studies carried out, the next<br />

step would be to explore possibilities <strong>of</strong> new irrigation projects <strong>in</strong> the<br />

state <strong>in</strong> order to make up the <strong>in</strong>termediate and long term<br />

projecteddemands <strong>of</strong> the population. In this connection, agricultural<br />

produce would be considered to be scaled up to bridge the gap to the<br />

extent possible by <strong>in</strong>tensive and extensive strategies. Improved<br />

cultivation practices for major crops will be suggested for achiev<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

optimum yield levels. However, the topography <strong>of</strong> the state not be<strong>in</strong>g<br />

very favourable to major and medium irrigation projects, m<strong>in</strong>or irrigation<br />

development duly supported with region–specific treatments to conserve<br />

soil moisture <strong>in</strong>-site would be attempted.<br />

F<strong>in</strong>ally economics <strong>of</strong> all the above efforts alongwith a time<br />

schedule for their need based phase wise implementation would be<br />

suggested.<br />
