For over a century, X-<strong>ray</strong> radiation has<br />
played an important role <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> area <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> conservation and restoration <strong>of</strong> cultural<br />
heritage objects. X-<strong>ray</strong> <strong>techniques</strong><br />
are amongst <strong>the</strong> most fundamental and<br />
helpful methods used <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>vestigation<br />
<strong>of</strong> art works.<br />
This paper reviews <strong>the</strong> application <strong>of</strong><br />
X-<strong>ray</strong> Dual Source Computed Tomography<br />
(DSCT) <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>vestigations <strong>of</strong> wooden<br />
pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs and sculptures.<br />
The idea beh<strong>in</strong>d Dual Source CT is quite<br />
simple: it is merely us<strong>in</strong>g two X-<strong>ray</strong> sources<br />
(at two dierent kV levels simultaneously)<br />
and two detectors at <strong>the</strong> same time. Us<strong>in</strong>g<br />
such comb<strong>in</strong>ation, it is possible to get<br />
double temporal resolution, double speed,<br />
and twice <strong>the</strong> power, while lower<strong>in</strong>g dose<br />
even fur<strong>the</strong>r. The result are two spiral<br />
data sets acquired <strong>in</strong> a s<strong>in</strong>gle scan provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />
diverse <strong>in</strong>formation. Dual Source CT<br />
provides images <strong>of</strong> exceptional quality and<br />
is an amaz<strong>in</strong>g tool not only <strong>in</strong> medic<strong>in</strong>e but<br />
also <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> area <strong>of</strong> cultural heritage.<br />
As a result, 2D and 3D images, permitt<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>the</strong> full volume <strong>in</strong>spection <strong>of</strong> an object,<br />
were taken <strong>in</strong> totally non-destructive way.<br />
The morphological and physical <strong>in</strong>formation<br />
about <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ner structure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>vestigated<br />
wooden objects were obta<strong>in</strong>ed,<br />
reveal<strong>in</strong>g changes related to previous<br />
restorations, as well as age<strong>in</strong>g eects.<br />
