“German Networking Drinks GZ”
Members and friends of the German
Chamber gathered in the Ten Café
on February 5 th . German Networking
Drinks events are held every 2
months throughout the PRD and invite
members and friends of the
German business community to discover
new places in good company.
Industrial Insurance Seminar
On February 1 st , Damien Ferte from
the Abacare Group Corporate Insurance
and Mr. Bruce Wang, Allianz
Insurance Company Guangzhou
Branch offered a presentation on
property and casualty insurance and
claims in Allianz Insurance Company
Guangzhou Branch’s office.
Individual Income Tax
The GCC organized 2 presentations
covering IIT in Guangzhou and
Shenzhen on February 6 th and 13 th .
The first seminar took place at the
Pricewaterhouse Coopers office in
Guangzhou. Presented by Claus
Schuermann it was entitled
“Individual Income Tax Self Reporting
Requirement”, the interactive
presentation attracted over 25
members. The second discussion was
hosted by Olaf Griese, from Dezan
Shira & Associates. Entitled “New
Requirements on Individual Income
Tax”, it provided an in-depth study of
the issue with illustrated cases.
GCC–GZ HR– BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE:
“Effective Interviewing & Assessment
Skills for PRC Employees”
On March 28 th Ms. Vicky Wong
chaired a discussion on effective
interviewing techniques and candidate
assessment skills in Hewitt Associates
Guangzhou’s meeting room. Over 15
participants joined the dialogue,
marking thus the revival of the GCC
Business Rountable Series. These
gatherings offer members a frank
and open forum where to discuss the
challenges that face companies
working in Southern China and to
analyze how to translate them into
everyday practices.
Corporate Social Responsibility
The German Consulate in Canton and
the GCC set up two CSR
presentations reporting on Bremen
University of Applied Science’s
ongoing survey of German SMEs
Corporate Governance. On March 13,
Prof. Dr. Schaedler presented in the
Consul General’s residence in
Guangzhou how locus of decision
making, means of controlling and
CSR measures affect company
performance. The next day, in the
Kempinski Hotel – Shenzhen, her
colleagues Dr. Renate Krieg and
Tatjana Erlewein presented how
abiding to high CSR standards can
strenghthen enterprise competitiveness.
bfai’s Survey on the PRD Economy
Dr. Roland Rhode from the
Bundesagentur für Außenwirtschaft
(bfai) presented in Guangzhou and

Adidas (Blue) and Audi (Red) organized a friendly football match on Thursday
March 22 nd in Tianhe. This Team building event brought together two German
companies that are partners of the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Shenzhen the findings of his recent
2007 PRD Study – a joint bfai
and GCC Guangzhou / GIC Hong
Kong publication. The presentations
took place on April 3 rd during
the AGM of the GCC in Guangzhou’s
Garden Hotel and on April 12 th during
the “Meet the All China Board” mixer
in Shenzhen. The study is available
for purchase in our office (Rmb 190).
Corporate Income Tax Reform
The new Chinese Corporate Income
Tax Law which was approved by the
National People’s Congress on March
16, 2007 will become effective on
January 1, 2008. On April 4 th and
April 11 th , the GCC held presentations
on these topics in both GZ and SZ.

‘s Office how the new law could
influence foreign investments, what
chances and risks result through it
and how to prepare for the changes.
In Guangzhou, Mr. Rio Chan held a
presentation in the Ernest & Young
Office covering not only new
developments in tax policies but also
non-tax developments, issues that
may have significant impact on
foreign investors who have
operations in China and about the
possible precautionary actions.
