Here we are in the middle of January! Where did the time go? We have had another busy month.
In Phonics we are midway into our unit on the vowel digraphs ea, oo, ue, ui, ew, aw, and al as well as the diphthongs
oy, oi, ow, and ou. So far the children are doing well learning these vowel sound combinations.
In Math we have been making congruent shapes, Venn diagrams, using the a.m. and p.m. labels for time, and reading a
thermometer to the nearest 2 degrees Fahrenheit. Looking ahead we will discuss gallons, liters, medians, and quarts.
In Social Studies we have talked about Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of peace and compassion for all. I asked the
children to ponder their dreams for our country or community. Here are some of their thoughts:
Maria--I dream that everyone would pray.
Austin--I dream for world peace.
Gregg--I dream there would be no more fighting.
Fabiola--I dream all guns and bombs would disappear.
Kate--I dream I could help the poor.
Happy Birthday to Fabiola Hernandez.
2nd Grade
Music
Happy New Year to all as we begin a new semester. Music classes will be continuing to work on rhythm, melody,
harmony, form, tone color and creating as well as building a working music vocabulary. In all classes, we will continue
to develop our singing voices.
In the lower classes we will put extra emphasis on rhythm as well. In the upper grades we will continue to work on our
recorders. The Singspirations will be learning some new pieces and will be available for performances soon. If you
have a group or organization that needs some entertainment, please let us know. We would love to come and perform
for you.
To the children of the world, let them always have the opportunity to grow, develop, and above all create.
