A HAPPY NEW YEAR
TO EVERYONE!
This month’s spotlight
is on Val Austin She
was born and brought
up in White Plains,
NY and attended NYU
obtaining her BS degree
in Elementary Ed She
taught in NY for about
18 years and in Collier
County another 15,
specializing in ESOL
students (Educating
Students of Other Languages), and special education.
In ’85 the family moved to Naples, built a home
in Pelican Bay and lived there for 12 years After the
children graduated from college, they sold the home
and for almost the next 10 years traveled the northern
continent via a 40’ motor home In 2005 Val Moved to
VeronaWalk
Colorado and California, two of her most favorite
states, she reminded me that she doesn’t want to forget
the beauty of Canada and Mexico She has traveled
abroad from time to time but her favorite form of travel
is the ‘cruise’ Most recently, several cruises have been
enjoyed with a 14 day transatlantic trip one stopping
in Portugal and ending in Barcelona where she spent a
week experiencing the Spanish traditions
Although her first passion is traveling ; tennis,
swimming, and exercising occupy much of her time,
and they only pale by her love for her incredible
friends
In December 2010, Val underwent ‘bi-lateral’
hip replacement and by Feb 2011, she was back
on the tennis courts At this time, she feels she has
recuperated 100% and wishes to thank every one of her
special friends who supported her throughout the long
process of healing
Val is the mother of two sons and grandmother to
Reid, age 6 and Ean age 2
After her daily tennis, she has been seen driving her
golf cart, walking dogs, cat-sitting, babysitting, and
when the need arises, she does airport runs This keeps
her busy in between finding life extremely satisfying
when she is helping others in need
