export ware porcelain Nanking<br />
bough pots each of canted square<br />
section on a splayed foot and flaring<br />
towards the rim, with pierced colours,<br />
decorated in underglaze blue with<br />
four clawed dragons chasing a flaming<br />
pearl amid cloud design. the body with<br />
raised buds, unique rope twist handles<br />
and floral decoration within raised border<br />
panels. these pots are identical to<br />
a pair in the White House, Washington,<br />
during the presidency of ronald reagan.<br />
Provenance: purchased Cordy’s<br />
<strong>Auction</strong>, 11 February 1981, lot 235. From<br />
the estate of John Waldie, an Auckland<br />
