A pair of old rare and important Chinese
export ware porcelain Nanking
bough pots each of canted square
section on a splayed foot and flaring
towards the rim, with pierced colours,
decorated in underglaze blue with
four clawed dragons chasing a flaming
pearl amid cloud design. the body with
raised buds, unique rope twist handles
and floral decoration within raised border
panels. these pots are identical to
a pair in the White House, Washington,
during the presidency of ronald reagan.
Provenance: purchased Cordy’s
Auction, 11 February 1981, lot 235. From
the estate of John Waldie, an Auckland
antique dealer. Height 230, 190 square.
