lens with small chips. raised on 430mm<br />

tall tilt and swivel tripod based table<br />

stand. Glaswegian, thomas peacock<br />

optician and instrument maker<br />

emigrated to Auckland in 1862 and<br />

operated from shortland street until<br />

election to the City Council in 1878. He<br />

became Mayor and subsequently Mp<br />

for Auckland city north, newton and<br />

ponsonby until 1890. captain roland<br />

Christian Hammond was manager<br />

of the northern steam ship co from<br />

1921, following capt. charles ransom.<br />

Forever), the handle modelled as a<br />

cannon, cream glazed with brown<br />

glaze to the top and base rims. impressed<br />

potter’s monogram and<br />

‘Rd123’. Height 215, some cracking<br />

and chipping evident. Note Hutson’s<br />

eldest son served in the South African<br />

campaign with New Zealand’s Second<br />

Zealand) sculptured pottery large maori<br />

wahine figure (fountain pedestal),<br />

with deep toned rich majolica glaze,<br />

she stands wearing a Maori rain cape<br />

(pake) with one arm raised and on an<br />

octagonal base. Modelled by W H Barrett,<br />

‘teacher of modelling at the school<br />

of design’ (Wellington Technical School).<br />

central medallion depicting vases and<br />

by brightly coloured chrysanthemums<br />

A large Imari porcelain rouleau vase,<br />

the tapering cylindrical body with<br />

subtle fluting, the neck with a broad<br />

everted rim. Decorated in iron red,<br />

gilt and cobalt blue with two panels of<br />

flowering boughs, fan and quatrefoil<br />

motifs decorate the interstices on a<br />

background decorated with a profusion<br />

of flowering tendrils. The neck<br />

similarly decorated. With later wooden<br />

A pair of Japanese Imari vases, ovoid<br />

shape with trumpet neck, scalloped<br />

rim and two handles at the shoulder.<br />

each decorated with panels framed<br />

by sinuous dragons and ho-ho birds<br />

depicting the emperor and empress<br />

beneath a maple tree. A profusion<br />

of florals in bright enamels decorate<br />

the remainder of the vase. Traditional<br />

iron red and cobalt blue stylised florals<br />

decorate the mouth and foot of the<br />

vases. One restored. Six character<br />

mark under the base. Height 410. See<br />
