NJSIAA members reject changes The general membership of the New Jersey State Interscholastic -Athletic Association rejected two proposals last week that were approved by Executive Committee members. The defeated programs included a series of playoffs to determine sectional football champions and a basketball "Tournament of Champions" to feature the. seven state titlists in quest of the grand championship. In addition to the defeated legislation the NJSIAA general membership approved some changes in high school track and field. Beginning with the 1974 spring sports season; the 180 yard low hurdles will be replaced in all meets within the state by the 330 yard intermediate hurdle event. Athletes will also be permitted Gym team to [perform at ACC The -world-famous Danish Gym Team will present a program ranging from modern gymnastics to quaint folk dances in colorful native costumes today (Thursday) at Atlantic Community College. The event will begin at 8 p.m. in ACC's Jonathan Pitney Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required. The 14-part program includes rhythmic exercises using a variety of props, modern gymnastics on a wide range of apparatus, vaulting and tumbling, "jazz gymnastics," and folk dancing. The majority of the program is accompanied by music, most to compete in four events rather than three as in previous years. Players running the 880 may compete in two additional I events. Other actions include the extension of varsity cross country meets to three miles, a requirement that officials of girls' sports be registered with the association, creation of rules covering varsity ice ^hockey and skiing and the defeat of rules governing the off-season competition of varsity soccer players. Strangely enough,- the general membership, also approved a rule that would allow the Executive Committee to take action in certain areas without consulting the membership. This rule would enable the Executive Committee to start football playoffs and a one-champion basketball tournament despite the membership's objection. _ ShufflinOn by Jack Schneider Instead of Polar Bears perhaps Frozen Ducks would be a more apt title for the hearty shufflers.
