GENERAL INFORMATION<br />

A <strong>Surveillance</strong> <strong>Minimum</strong> <strong>Altitude</strong> Area (SMAA) is a defined area in which the minimum safe altitudes allocated by a controller giving an <strong>ATC</strong> <strong>Surveillance</strong> service<br />

for IFR flights have been predetermined.<br />

<strong>Altitude</strong>s shown are based on QNH.<br />

SMAA do not constitute controlled airspace.<br />

SMAA minimum safe altitude ensures obstacle clearance within the area concerned plus a 5.0 NM buffer area. <strong>Minimum</strong> safe altitude is determined by the<br />

highest obstacle elevation or the highest terrain elevation +20 M whichever is higher, plus safety margin of 300 M (984 FT), rounded up to the next hundred feet.<br />

TEMPERATURE CORRECTION: <strong>Minimum</strong> safe altitudes are temperature corrected down to 0 degrees Celsius.<br />

This chart may only be used for cross-checking of assigned altitudes whilst in receipt of an <strong>ATC</strong> <strong>Surveillance</strong> service.<br />

COMMUNICATION FAILURE: In accordance with procedures described in AIP Norway ENR 1.3, para 5.<br />
