MODERN EXECUTIVE
Progress made: As the part’s design was
not finalized when the mold order was
placed, the moldmaker suggested that
the customer approve its preliminary
mold design so that it could order steel
and get rough machining work completed;
final mold design could be finished
once the final 3D data were provided.
The moldmaker placed an order with
MoldMasters to ensure suitable hot runners
were available in time. The mold
assembly was finished a bit earlier than
scheduled. The customer later asked about
the availability of Staubli water manifolds.
After discussion, the customer agreed that
it would supply these, with the moldmak-
‚We are ready to assist
you, no matter when
and where in the world‘
With the innovative extrusion
blow molding techniques of
Kautex Maschinenbau, almost
any shape can be produced
repeatably and cost effectively.
Kautex offers everything from
expert consultations to complete
turnkey production systems, always
focusing on your bottom line.
Your Future in Plastics
er using the processor’s drawing to complete
all water and manifold fittings.
The customer required limit switches
for moveable components, which TMT
installed and tested. Also, for mold precision,
the customer required a DME interlock
system.
Trials commence: After mold manufacturing,
TMT conducted internal mold trials,
then a formal mold trial, using the customer’s
molding parameters divined
from mold flow analysis. To cut costs it
used locally sourced purging material.
Then the customer’s material was
processed for a formal molding trial with
video taken of six complete cycles,
including the movement of automatic
parts’ drop-off and all moveable components,
as well as close-up views of
core/cavity, gating, the hot runner system,
wiring, venting, engravings, nitrided
areas, bed-off pads, and water connector
fittings/manifold.
Once good parts were processed in a
suitable cycle time, TMT collected and
packaged the molded parts and sent
these to the processor via DHL door-todoor
service, with an e-mail to the customer
reporting the trial result, including
the molding parameters used, the inspection
report following 2D drawings, a forward
action plan, and suggestions.
The finish line: The customer sent its comments
on the samples, plus a few engineering
changes. A final internal trial
was conducted, and the customer then
was notified of the planned final trial
date. The processor came to that trial,
signed for the mold and asked for rapid
delivery. Within seven days all final
details, including shipping logistics, were
complete. Also, TMT sent to the customer
a package including:
• A disc with 2D mold drawings and 3D
mold files.
• 2D drawings by print.
• Certificates of steel, certificates of heat
treatment.
• Final molding parameters.
• Customer’s mold delivery checklist.
• Final electrodes (per customer’s
request).
Happy ending: The customer supplied
quality parts (see photo, p.32) to its
MPW
client on time.
