Issue 85
Another wonderful school year is almost over and thoughts are turned to summer vacation; beaches, forests, mountains
and lakes. Where ever we are headed we will take the many good memories of these past thirty-eight weeks
with us.
We have many people to thank for these memories. The Parent Council has been wonderful and very giving of their
support in a variety of ways, all of which show their commitment to our students and their learning environment,
whether it be for outdoor equipment or classroom equipment.
Teams of smiling pasta moms greet us each Tuesday pleasantly asking; brown or white or a mix? What choices we
have the luxury of at our school! The delicious smell of warm pizza arriving every Friday draws students, teachers
and administration from their classrooms and office to enjoy a slice and a word with our dedicated Pizza mom
Helene and her team of helpers. We will miss you all over the summer months.
The Library team is hard at work stock-taking at the moment. A hard and dusty job which they tackle with good humour.
Thanks for all the new books purchased and entered into our rapidly growing library. It is a cosy place to be in
our school.
Favourable comments have been heard all year regarding the new monthly format of the HIS Newsletter, a most
impressive document with contributions from students, parents and teachers. A true community newsletter! It is a
known fact that this newsletter is also read by alumni, both past students and teachers, who read with joy about our
activities and happenings.
Thanks too, to all parents who have generously offered to
be reading moms, math moms, class trip moms, laminating
moms, costume-maker moms, activity day supporters
and so much more. PC committees often work behind the
scenes for the benefit of our community. The Welcoming
Committee play a very special part in welcoming and
helping new families make the transition into our school
and into Denmark! HIS school „gear‟ including hooded
sweatshirts and polo shirts are popular with all students
and can be seen in a rainbow of colours around the
school, the new team has some good ideas to watch for
next academic year. It is a true sign of our community
spirit and the strength of our school that you willingly volunteer
your time to support the school and students.
We say „congratulations and good luck‟ to our Grade 9 &
10 graduates, we wish you all the best in all future endeavours
and ask that you keep in touch so we can
share in your triumphs and successes. Including our
graduating class, approximately forty students will be
leaving HIS to move on to other countries, other schools
and other challenges. Do well and remember us fondly.
We look ahead to welcoming current families back on
August 17 th and to welcoming new families into our community.
We look forward to hearing and sharing new
ideas and activities. But for now, it is time to say goodbye.
Have a wonderful, relaxing and safe summer.
Jan Thrane, Torben Sundstrøm, Karen Johansen
Dear HIS parents and students,
The final term is coming to an end, and I would like to
thank you all for a good school year. Thank you for the
support and loyalty you have shown the school as well
as to me. It is fantastic to feel that year after year.
The school year 2008/09 has been a good and exciting
time and you have been able to read about it in NGG
information and HIS News throughout the school year.
You can also read it on the website.
The teachers and I will continue do our outmost to
make next school year as exciting and good as this year.
This though can only happen through a continued support
and co-operation between students, parents and
school – and I am sure it will.
Once more thank you for the fantastic support in
2008/2009. Have a nice summer and see you again
when school begins on Monday August the 17th at 8:55
am.
Take care of yourself and each other!
Kind regards,
A couple of weeks‟ ago 25 hard working PYP students staged a musical that thrilled parents, fellow
students and teachers alike. I sent a mail out asking for some feedback from those directly
involved, here are some of their responses:
Hi my name is Tania, I am in grade four, and I would like to talk about The Lucky Viking play that the grade fours
and grade fives did this year. I have had a lovely time with the teachers and all the other people who were part of this
play. In the start I was a bit nervous about doing this play, but then, I got confident and I was excited and a tiny bit
nervous (when we had to present the play). I would like to thank Michelle (the drama teacher), Karin (the music
teacher), Andreas (the art teacher) and Shannon for all the extra class time. I have had a fantastic time doing this play
and I am happy about the reactions (I am sad it had to end). After the play all the actors got some yummy candy and
junk food and nice drinks. I would also like to thank Heather for all the nice time she gave and my parents for being
sooooooooooooooooo nice and supportive.
Tania grade 4
I think the play was very good and it was very
exciting!! I think everybody did a great job and
I think it looked very real.
Sarah grade 4
On the 11 th of June, we had a play about a lucky Viking
named Leif. It was a really great play. After the
play we had Coke, chips and candy. We got some fun
sunglasses!!
Jasper grade 4
The play was perfect!! It could not have been
better. At the end of the play the boat fell, it
was not suppose to happen, but it was still
very funny. I think all the actors did really well.
All the songs were and every one sang beautifully.
I would love to do it again.
Roisin grade 4
The Lucky Viking
I was like a proud mommy with twenty children!! I laughed, cried and had butterflies in my tummy the entire time!!
I was so amazed with the dedication that all the grade four children had to the play. On our trip to Kerteminde there
was an impressive amount of Viking songs being sung on every street we walked, and even the days after the play
was finished still singing!! I just thought they were all „„AWESOME’’ and ‘‘they are all keepers’’!!
Shannon grade 4 class teacher
“I cried so much when the musical was performed. I just loved to see all the gorgeous PYP kids stand up
and sing all together, then sit down and the very
professional crew of student actors took over.
They were great, so I cried some more as I felt
so proud. The teachers (Karin Swiegers, Michelle
Jensen and Andreas Ries) who worked
so hard for this in their spare time were awesome;
they really motivated our children into
making this great show. Many many thanks on
the behalf of all the proud and loving PYP parents.”
Heather. (Proud mum to two actors and a little
bit of help with the costumes…and very good at
crying when I‟m happy)

“What can make a normally so tough business
woman weep? A show of young people who eagerly
and without any fear perform a passionate
show. What an experience for the performers, public
and everybody involved. Michelle, Karen and
Andreas – thank you. I hope this will become a tradition!!!!!
Looking forward to weep next year again!”
Sanna (proud mum of an Indian)
“I only saw one girl, my girl!”
A very very very proud mum... (Anita Geel)
“Dear actors, teacher - well everyone involved: I
had the best time in a long time seeing all those
wonderful happy faces and hearing their voices on the big stage. They all seemed so confident and grown
up - As we will be leaving HIS after this year it was THE BEST farewell I could get - seeing Christopher on
that stage with all his friends was amazing - Thank all for making it an evening to remember!”
Marianne Kruger - Gr. 5 mum
“Being involved in Drama and dance in my past, I will so impressed and loved the production. I know how
hard it is to make your own props and costumes, because I use to make costumes too. So hats off to all
the teachers. The kids were wonderful and I was so proud of all of them. And I was proud of my son
Prasad whose quick reaction saved the ship from falling down. My son enjoyed himself so much that
when it was all over, he was pretty sad. I tried to cheer him up by reminding him that there still the next
year production to come. Three cheers to all students and teachers.”
Veronica. Gr.4 mom
“I liked the play very much, but I was not allowed to talk. They all looked very funny. The part with the boat
and the Vikings I liked the most. Loki was very funny in his bear clothes. All the children were singing. My
brother Lars and Sisters Helen and Sarah were also singing, but I knew those songs already. I am already
big (3 years) but when I am a bit bigger and I am in grade 4, I will be a Viking too.”
Sven Bijl (little brother of three of the actors)
“The best thing was that the students were more excited about the play then parents! It was fantastic to
see the children bursting with confidence, self-esteem and pride...and of course it goes without saying,
that Odin(Kristoffer) was the best! Mums are allowed to be bias, aren't we?”
Michelle Bentsen.
“Well done everyone!! Superstars!”
Karen Johansen
The Lucky Viking cont/d...
“It was great to watch the play. Of course I was
proud of my two boys who came here at the beginning
of the school year not able to speak or understand
English, and were delivering their lines as
if they did it all their lives! But what I enjoyed the
most was to see how everybody was there performing
as a group! You could really see that they
enjoyed being up there together and entertaining all
of us.”
Marjonne
“The best part for me was seeing the whole PYP do something so wonderful and exciting together!! ALL the students,
teachers and parents involved amazed me with their commitment, enthusiasm and attitude; give yourselves a
big pat on the back! Can't wait for the next one!!!”
Grade 4’s Trip to Kerteminde
When we went to Kerteminde we took 2
trains and 1 bus. When we arrived in
Kerteminde we walked to our hostel, we got
our room keys and put our luggage in our
rooms. Then we went to an art museum with
an artist named Johannes Larsen he was an
interesting painter because his pictures of
faces looked like somebody starring at you.
He also created many other creative pieces
of art. It was a really fantastic art museum
and a great place to start our trip.
When we were done we went through town
and some of us bought ice cream.
Kerteminde is an old fishing town and all the
fishing boats said o.23 or something, the boats always have an o in front of the numbers because
they are from Oddense. Many people lived in old fishing houses.
After we went to our rooms and relaxed and
had a nice time. Then the teachers came and
knocked on our door and then it was time for
dinner. The food was delicious, then we
went out to play capture the flag, that was
great fun. Then we went in to our rooms and
slept.
The next day we ate breakfast and made our
lunch packs and walked to Fjord og Bælt.
Fjord og Bælt is a museum with fish, seals,
crabs, starfish and porpoises. We also went
out sailing in a speedboat full speed and we
also tried to sail ourselves. After that we
went out fishing with waders and we caught fish, starfish, crabs, jellyfish and a flatfish. After we
went fishing we went to the hostel and performed a talent show but it wasn’t that good. The
next day we took 2 trains and 1 bus back to Hørsholm.
It was a nice trip and we all had a nice time.
Thanks to Shannon and Michelle for letting
us have so much fun!!!!!!!
Berlin Tour 2009 (MYP2/7th Grade)
By Nicole R. Andersen with input from other members of the class
On Thursday, 14 th May 2009, everyone got together at DGI Byen in Copenhagen, excited to go to Berlin. No one
really cared how early it was because we were all ready for this trip that we had been waiting for, for so long. The
bus and ferry ride were fun, and even though we had some complications
on the way into Germany, everything worked out very well and
we got to Berlin in great time. We first went to the hotel and stayed
there for a little bit just to get a little rest after the long trip. Then,
when we finally left, we went to the German Parliament. We spent
about an hour here and went to the top of the building into a glass
dome, which stood at the very top. The view was spectacular and the
way everything was built up in a spiral around us was amazing. After
looking around for a little bit, most of the class decided to lie on a
bench at the top floor of the dome! We had been up early after all!
After we left the Parliament, we went to the Sony Center at Potsdamer
Platz. On the way to the Sony Center, we went to see the Jewish
Holocaust Memorial Monument and The Brandenburg Gate and a
little bit of the Berlin Wall.
When we got to the Sony Center we all saw how cool the building actually is. It is kind of like a lot of different
buildings with a shared connected roof that looks like a glass umbrella. Michelle told us that the reason why there
could be a hole in the roof was so that the rain could fall in and then it runs down a huge “teardrop” and feeds into a
pool at the bottom. The Sony Center had various offices and eating
places and a Sony store. We came here mainly for dinner, so we all
decided to eat at a place called ALEX. Everyone seemed to like the
food, and after we were finished the whole class hurried over to Dunkin‟
Donuts! We all bought something and enjoyed our snacks either
back at the hotel at Stuttgarter Platz or on the train back there via
Charlottenburg.
The next morning was an interesting one: we were all told we had to
meet for breakfast at 9:00am, so everyone was either getting ready or
hanging out in each other‟s rooms. At one point in the morning Omar
even came in and tried to straighten his own and others‟ hair. After
that interesting experience we all went to go get breakfast, and the food at the hotel was very nice. This was the day
we were going to take a tour bus around Berlin and drop-off, drop-on all day. We visited the Checkpoint Charlie museum,
and we visited the recently extended Jewish Museum.
The tour bus was a fun ride and we got to see a lot of places. The funny part was that there was a giant teddy bear on
the tour bus with us! Elizabeth wanted to sit with it but it was so big that there wasn‟t any room. The Checkpoint
Charlie museum was a very sad place but it also made us realize
how smart the East German people were to get past or over the Berlin
wall. There were so many smart ideas to get past the guards; for
example, one person hid a woman inside 2 suitcases that were put
together. After we got out of the museum we went to go get food
and something to drink and then we went to the Jewish Museum
where we spent about an hour. The new extension had the most unusual
architecture. The atmosphere was pretty emotional. The most
interesting part was the Holocaust Tower, which allowed you to experience
a sense of being trapped.
After we got back on the tour bus we saw many embassies and special
buildings. We also saw the bombed church preserved from
World War Two next door to its modern replacement. Berlin really is a beautiful city. When we got back to where
we started the class split up into two groups, the zoo group and the shopping group. The zoo group went to the Berlin
Zoo with Derek and saw many animals including Knut the Polar Bear, and the boys were all very excited to see
the Bonobo monkeys! The shopping group went with Michelle to a shoe store, a sports store, and C&A, which is

Berlin Tour 2009 (MYP2/7th Grade) cont/d...
kind of the German H&M. We then all met for dinner and then took the
S train back to the hotel.
The third day we all went to the Technology Museum in Berlin. We saw
many things like trains, cars, planes and boats. There was a REAL aeroplane
on the viewing platform up on the roof! The interactive area was
everyone‟s favorite because there was a flight simulator (where you felt
as if you were a butterfly!) and a roulette game where you could use
probability to see your chances of being correct. Everyone thought that
this was a very cool and interesting museum.
Later on in that day we all
went to the Hertha BSC vs
Schalke 04 game at the Olympic stadium. It was very crowded –
74,000 to be exact - but also very exciting. The game ended in a 0-0
tie. And on the train ride back to the hotel we all learned just how
hyped up people get about these games! We were on a “Schalke train”
and the supporters were mocking us and singing songs about us because
we were speaking English! After we told them we were actually
from Denmark they loved us, and just sang songs about Ebbe Sand for
the whole of the rest of the journey!
After we had spent a little time at the hotel we went down to the nearby
sushi restaurant, and while not everyone chose sushi everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the food, except
Omar who started crying. We discovered he had eaten a big mouthful of WASABI! He was actually happy – but
paralyzed! When we were finished eating we went to the hotel (which was right around the corner) and hung out
until we all had to go to bed.
The next day we all woke up and packed up, as this was our last day in Berlin. We all had our basic morning routine,
wake up, get ready, eat breakfast (only this time we also had to pack), and then we were off to go bowling.
However, on the way to bowling we had time to go to the top of the TV tower, as the line was not too long. The view
from up there (it is over 350 metres high) was amazing and it was such a cool place to be in. After we got down back
to normal ground we all went to the Alexander Platz bowling alley and bowled and had brunch. It was very nice, and
excellent fun.
After the brunch, however, we all had to leave and get on the bus back to Denmark. We left at 3pm and spent a long
time on the bus and ferry (however it was a fun ride) until we got back to Denmark. I think I can honestly say that
the entire class had a great time and that we all miss it. Berlin was a great city and a great trip.
Danish Champion at HIS
Sofia, grade 5 won gold in the 50m freestyle race
at the recent Danish swimming championships in
Jylland.
Sofia swam a perfect race leading from start to finish
to end with a personal best time of 30.70 seconds.
Two years of hard training and (mostly!) healthy eating
paid off as she also picked up silver in the 100m
freestyle and 4th places in the 200 & 400m freestyle
races.
Well done Sofia!
HIS Activity Day, 2009
Despite the rain, thunder and hail, the Big Gm was transformed, last minute, to a football stadium, to house
the first ever HIS whole school football match! Everyone played with enthusiasm and proved what a flexible
group of students, parents and teachers we are! Well done, Michelle for organizing such a fun afternoon
and thank you HIS parents for the splash of colour in the form of snacks and drinks. It was great.
It was a bit wet last year,
but we never stopped smiling!
“Activity day was a great bunch of fun for students, teachers and parents. Despite the weather
everyone was able to make adjustments and have fun! All the kids had a blast and it was a cozy
way to spend a Friday afternoon!! We are all looking forward to this event next year. A big thanks
to Michelle for all the fun!”
The PC Takes a Look Back… and Forward
How to start a short or possibly very long summing-up of the year? Perhaps to begin by waving goodbye to all those
beautiful departing HIS families. Who will now fly away from us to their future destinations, or students from the
higher grades that move-on to higher education; you are many this year! We grieve that you go, but know that this is
our international cross to bear, and that the intensity of knowing you all for this short time has been made always
more piquant, as we all knew that we had to fit so much into your short stay. Some people live in the same house,
street, town or country for the whole of their lives. This is normal. We international families shuttle around the world
like a tribe of nomads. We blend our cultures, children, parties, pasts, presents and, sometimes, futures with relatively
pleasurable ease and are more than accustomed to settling-down, making friends and putting-out rapid growth
of root systems in record time. Some of us suffer terrible homesick pangs for our mother lands though; others wish
they were in the next destination. But many more of us love the international life. Take care, thanks for all you have
added to our lives and our school! Remember to write and be happy!! We won‟t forget you.
The next paragraph is dedicated to all those new families arriving to our school. I expect that you will read this newsletter
online, or amidst packing cases and with children nervously eyeing you as you buy their new pencil cases for
the first day of term! Relax. We are a great little school and community and we will care for you all in this new country.
We sincerely hope that you too can brighten our lives with your exotic backgrounds and experiences. If you have
something to share, celebrate or offer that is enriching to our lives in the mini global village, then just let us know. All
we parents just want to make things better for our children and our community.
Phew….Now for the loose ends, the beautiful loose ends may I add: HIS is growing up; we are in the early stages of
her budding from a small school into a somewhat larger one. We can feel the growth coming, and the solid and loving
foundation remains that the school provides our students with. The PC is growing in strength too. As you read on
through this end of term newsletter, you will see your ideas merging to make a PC fitter, sleeker and more streamlined
than before. Check-out the HIS website and see all our welcoming pack and sub-group information…we have
been very busy, our website is the place to keep checking in the coming year. Other loose ends include a recent
successful PC meeting, the minutes of which will be forwarded to you by your class rep. The biggest loose end that
needs tying is to look back on the passing school year for the students and try and successfully attempt to summarize
it! Naturally I can‟t; but it has been worth every second of care, expertise and the look of contentment as we
gaze into our children‟s eyes. We have a great little school here!
The new school year will purr into action on Monday the 17 th of August with a coffee morning and introduction to all
us busy souls in the Parents Council, and sub groups who keep it purring so succinctly. With so many wonderful
helpers leaving us this summer, we are in short supply of new volunteers for our sub-groups. The massively industrious
and profitable pasta and pizza moms need helping hands just one time a month for a couple of hours, the library
needs help with jobs large and small on a rota basis and is a wonderful asset to our small school, the HIS News
needs punchy journalists and has an urgent need now for a lay-out person, the events team can always use some
strong, happy and party loving bunny girls. The job as events group coordinator is most definitely up for grabs too,
as I step-down permanently from this post now. The design group has had a massive result this past year with the
new playground now to be fully installed in July. There is a now a sub sub group now within the design group with
Marjonne and Anita taking over the school uniform project; the girls now refer to it as ”the HIS School gear”…we are
very much looking forward to all their “colourful” new creations to be revealed at the beginning of the school year.
Another sub group of the design group is a core team of creative and visual minded people who can help give the
school a face-lift for the planed very high profile event at school at the end of April 2010.
I‟d better start a new paragraph for this one, as it is quite frankly HUGE. Cristina Gehre and I started the ball rolling
with Cristina suggesting that it would be a wonderful gesture to highlight the plight of people with kidney failure, a
student in K1 having had to deal with this and Cristina‟s own husband. The ball rolled on to a meeting with the
“Nyreforeningen” (Danish Kidney Association) Karen Johansen came along and before we knew it we had clinched
their big event of the year at our school, with national Kidney awareness day falling on the last weekend of April
2010. We will have workshops and seminars all week long, and indeed year long for the students. NGG will also be
involved with parallel health awareness classes and events with us, a healthy (preventative) menu will be offered to
all HIS students and pharmaceutical companies will deluge our school with freebies, information packages and informative
talks and DVD‟s. Also sponsored cycle races and sponsored “be still for 1 hour” events and the like. We are
aware that kidney related issues are a heavy one, especially for small kids. The younger grades will deal with preventive
health measures, whilst the older grades will tackle the heavyweight issues here. Dynamic teachers including
Shannon, Karen Bøttger and Michelle Bentsen are on board, and nurse practitioner parent Mary Kosco will be
involved on an advisory level too. An art competition will be held, from which a collection of framed winning paintings
will tour Danish hospitals. The first being Hillerød, where the young artists will attend a reception and maybe get on
TV. All through this week of creativity and intense learning the national press will be hovering and thus raising the
profile of our school to a very wide audience via press and media coverage. Much more detailed information will be
filtered through to you in the new school year by the teaching staff and admin. So as you can see, it is massive! We
need a big team of PR minded parents and good solid team players to help set the stage for this grand event. HIS is
kicking-off this super exciting year with a gala event on the 10 th September 2009 at 19:00. We have managed to

The PC Takes a Look Back… and Forward cont/d...
block 75 prime seat tickets for the Dannebrog Circus at Trianglen in Copenhagen. These 75 tickets are like the
golden tickets in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” as not only do they cost a piffling 100 DKK, they are also ringside
seats for us to lobby Crown Princess Mary (the protector/patron of the Danish Nyreforeningen) to come to visit
us at HIS and observe all our hard work and spirit at the end of April 2010. I have designed a T shirt for all circus
goers to wear bearing our school name and a catchy bit of branding for Mary to see and to dazzle the TV cameras
with; These t shirts are obligatory to wear on the evening and cost just 60 DKK each inc moms….Jan Thrane having
subsided them considerably…Thank you Jan! We kindly ask that the guests for this event are mainly students and
that there is only one adult per family present. Please email me directly as you read this newsletter with your name
and family sizes and numbers; Adults in L, M and S and kids in 120 (age 5 to 7), 134,(age 7 to 10) 146 (age 10 to
12) and 164 (age 13 to 16)This is all operating on a first come first served level entirely…I will take the first 75 requests
to arrive in my inbox: heathergartside@gmail.com
That brings me finally onto the thank you‟s. Thanks to all PC reps, all sub reps, all library, pasta, pizza, newsletter
and classroom volunteers! You are wonderful. On Sankt Hans Aften I will be handing-out the HIS “Golden Balls
Awards 2009.” All helping hands from the parent body will be receiving their posthumous trophies on the beach. I
daren‟t hazard naming you all and running the risk of forgetting someone….we know who you are and we all at HIS
thank you warmly for your loving help. Also present at the beach party will be some truly stoic departing PC reps
who have given much over the years; Susan Hansen for her great work as PC chairman and PC rep for many years,
Ulla Fredsbo for years and years of smiling and dedicated help all over the place at HIS and as gr.9 sub rep, K2 rep
Karolijn Van Ginneken and K1 rep Anita Witjes. Also departing and in need of some heartfelt thanks are; Jill Mirza
who was sub rep to gr.2 and great helper at school, pasta mum Delia, Evi our wonderfully talented lay-out designer
for the HIS News, Yolande, who has been a great inspiration to many of us, Alessandra from the Events group for all
her sassy Brazilian style and gr.10 rep Alesa. Thank you to Jan Thrane and Torben for another fine year at the helm.
A round of applause to all the great and committed teaching faculty and a big hand for the HIS admin staff; Karin
Frank, Jan Alling and last, but by no means least…. Karen Johansen!
Have a great vacation wherever you wander. Get emailing me for a “golden ticket “right now and I‟ll sort through the
mountain when I return from my vacation on the 10 th of July. Please check-out the HIS/NGG website for messages
and great information. See y‟all in August when we can catch-up and meet all those great new families, who will reinvigorate
us and help us shape the brand new academic year. It‟s going to be the best yet!
With very best wishes,
Heather Gartside Knudsen
PLEASE NOTE: The first day of school is on the 17 th of August, not on the 19 th as previously stated. The
welcoming coffee morning for PYP and MYP parents is from 9:00 until 10:30 in the garden near the HIS
aula, students go to their classrooms at this time and then school ends for the day.
The Parents Council First Aid Kit
A small first-aid kit, for light injuries only, can now be found on the top of the cupboard
in the HIS bathroom.
This kit is for parents to use in case of accidents in the playground outside of school
hours. The large first aid kit in the HIS teachers staff room has now been thoroughly
checked by Mary Kosco (nurse practitioner and HIS mom) and has now re-stocked with
all supplies. In the future Karen Johansen with designate a trained first – aid teacher to
this job.
Saskia has been busy making prominent signs with the relevant telephone numbers for
medical emergencies, these you can find in the bathroom and on the PC notice board.
Finally…Cristina has been updating the “HIS Family Survival Guide” and has included a big new chunk of medical
information for all HIS families to take note of. This publication goes out to all new families, but you may also collect
one at the beginning of the new school term at the coffee morning on the 17 th of August.
With best regards,
Heather, Cristina, Mary and Saskia

Pasta and Pizza Team Appreciation Time!
Coming to the end of the school year, we are happy to see our pizza-pasta funds to be a big success.
First of all; many thanks to our wonderful pizza mum Hélène and her backup team for the organisation of the Friday
pizza lunch.
We have been very fortunate with the smoothly running pasta teams this past year, feeding 150 kids every week
with an accompaniment of lovely smiles and laughter.
Very often our fussy customers praise our tasty sauce, and
the healthy "brown" pasta is becoming a real hit! Thank
you to the committed mums for their great cooperation and
enthusiasm.
The best of luck to those leaving us - a normal thing for an
international school, alas. We are very grateful to still
have a solid base, but we are very much looking for extra
helpers to replace the ones leaving. Why don´t YOU join
our team once a month on a Tuesday morning and keep
those hungry kids happy?
A Thank you to our fabulous Fundraisers
from our Vice Headmaster
At HIS we are very fortunate to have incredible support and
commitment from our parent community. One of many contributions
our vibrant and well-run parent teams make to our school
is fund-raising.
Committed teams cook and serve warm whole wheat and white
pasta together with flavorful tomato pasta sauce to the entire
student body each and every Tuesday.
A second team, just as committed, order and distribute approximately
340 pizza slices to hungry students on Fridays.
The money from these two ventures is generously given to
support the HIS community in a variety of ways, some larger
and some smaller. In the past year parent pasta/pizza fundraising
money has been given to purchase 5 laptop computers, 4
projectors, the purchase and installation of an interactive
Library Notes
Teachers will be once again buying new
materials for the library as they travel
around the World this summer. This is
just a wee reminder to use the new PC
Funds Application Form 2009 so we can
all keep track of what is being bought
and how much of the PC funds we are
spending. Teachers have a more detailed
note about this procedure – which also
applies to parents J.
A few farewells...
Dear HIS and PC friends,
Our family will be leaving Denmark this summer (approx. Aug 1st), as Jørgen has a new job with ConvaTec, headquartered
in New Jersey, USA, where we will be residing in Princeton, NJ.
We have really enjoyed being part of HIS and the PC and getting to know all of you over the past 5 years that we
have been here again. I'm sure we will continue to be in touch, as Denmark is still and will always be part of our
home.
Hope to see you all at the end of year assembly, Sankt Hans
GOODBYE HIS!
5 years has gone by….so fast and with so much joy and pleasure – Still cannot believe we are leaving HIS to begin
our new adventure in Vietnam – also at a school called HIS!
But we would all love to say a big THANK YOU and a very sad farewell to HIS. I think you would all agree that if you
child if not feeling happy, no one really is – but you – the teachers, staff, classmates, parents from all over the world,
have made these 5 years wonderful for Christopher and the rest of our family.
Lucia, the way you took care of the class – they felt like your children! – “Lucia says we should do like this and that‟s
the way we do it!” he told us early on in grade 1 – With love and respect for each individual, you gave Christopher
the best start at HIS he could get Lucia –
Michelle – Jensen and Bentsen – always there; doing so much for the children; encouraging them to be individuals
and handling them as individuals. Thank you for all the extra activities you have done – Christopher has enjoyed
every moment!
Shannon – grade 4 – you really made them organized and the trip to Kerteminde – I still laugh and cry when I see
the video of all the happy children, and read the postcard Christopher sent to me – my big boy!
Ieva – grade 2 and then again the big ones in grade 5 – but you have managed – not least the big grade 5 project –
thank you for guiding them through.
Karin and Karin; both of you are always there – each one in your own way – Thank you for all your support and help
– No HIS without you!
And then last week, “The Lucky Viking” – what a show – Thank you everyone!
Guess I could go on and on – but what I really wanted to say is simply a huge
THANK YOU EVERYONE! For making these last 5 years here at HIS wonderful.
Pls. stay in touch. Christopher, and the rest of us would love to hear from all of our friends.
You can write to us by email: maredl@hotmail.com
we have had these past two years. HIS was our family‟s first real school experience and it was a good one.
We are going to miss the spontaneous atmosphere and the fun people a lot. A special thanks to Jennifer and
Ritu from K1 and Sharon and Daniela from K2 for taking such good care of our children.
