melting point, viscosity and hardness<br />

Clariant has been manufacturing<br />
<strong>Licocene</strong> ® for two years now and in<br />
order to meet rapidly rising demand,<br />
a large-scale production facility went<br />
on-stream in autumn 2006.<br />
Application<br />
The highly efficient lubricants, <strong>Licocene</strong><br />
PP 6102 and <strong>Licocene</strong> PE 4201<br />
are polypropylene- respectively polyethylene<br />
waxes based on metallocene<br />
technology.<br />

<strong>Licocene</strong> PP 6102 and <strong>Licocene</strong> PE 4201<br />
show a lower viscosity than conventional<br />
PP- and PE- waxes and PP 6102 shows<br />
also a significantly lower drop point<br />
than average polypropylene waxes.<br />
Non-polar polyolefin waxes are used<br />
to control rheology, gelation and flow<br />
behavior of PVC compounds and to<br />
improve surface properties. However<br />
being incompatible with the PVC-polymer<br />
matrix, the excessive use of polyolefin<br />
waxes can lead to undesired build-up<br />
of deposits at various locations during<br />
the extrusion process.<br />
Less is more – this is not only valid in<br />
many areas of our daily life but also in<br />
PVC processing when talking about nonpolar<br />
ingredients. The new metallocene<br />
waxes <strong>Licocene</strong> PP 6102 and <strong>Licocene</strong><br />
PE 4201 show an extraordinary strong<br />
external lubrication effect when compared<br />
to conventional polyolefin waxes.<br />
The addition of these products to various<br />
stabilized PVC compounds leads to a<br />
significant reduction in pressure formation<br />
along the extruder visible by the<br />
reduction in torque and last but not<br />
least in reduction of the energy consumption<br />
of the extruder.<br />

profile compounds providing similar<br />
performance to conventional formulations.<br />
Compared to state-of-the-art<br />
polyolefin or hydrocarbon waxes <strong>Licocene</strong><br />
PP 6102 and <strong>Licocene</strong> PE 4201<br />
provide better over-all processing<br />
behavior with a lower addition rate<br />
