Cockatoo Fire Brigade
With summer just about to start
residents should already
have been clearing around
their properties, taking particular care
to clean the gutters on houses.
Last summer the Cockatoo Fire Brigade
and surrounding brigades experienced
a high volume of callouts to reports of
burn-offs that had, or was going to get out
of control.
Could I ask anyone who is going to
burn off to keep the area around the piles
of leaves and wood clear and even damp
down around the edges as a precaution?
Also try not to burn off directly under
trees as the potential for a small fire to turn
into a large fire is very evident.
Should CFA fire restrictions come
into force be aware that you cannot burn
off unless you have a permit. Check the
weekly local newspapers and also the CFA
website for details of any restrictions.

‘Fire Danger Rating’ signs in Cockatoo
daily. One is located outside the Cockatoo
Fire Station and the other is at the top of
Bailey Road.
Cockatoo is located in the Central
Fire District.
In October the brigade attended six
calls, two vehicle accidents, two burn offs,
one power pole fire and one specialist
support to assist Pakenham. Four of the
incidents were supporting other brigades.
