Daniel Johnson with
felony fleeing, failing to
stop halt frisk, and driving
on revoked license second
offense was George Scott
Mizer of McMinn Street,
Athens.
Johnson said he swerved
and brought his patrol car
to a stop on High Street as
Mizer’s truck approached
him, attempting to dodge,
but Mizer fled up the
street at a high rate of
speed toward Monroe
Street.
As Johnson pursued,
Mizer apparently lost con-
trol and slammed into a
fence and a tree. He then
dropped from the truck
and continued to flee on
foot. Johnson said, however,
the flight did not succeed
as Mizer was
apprehended.
A quick check of
Mizer’s driving status determined
his license was
revoked, following a conviction
in McMinn
County in January.
A passenger in the truck
who was identified as Eric
Van Camp, also of Athens,
who was wanted on outstanding
warrants out of
Athens and who Johnson
charged with a Sweetwater
theft. (See adjoining article.)

Ramsey of Uphill Drive,
Madisonville.
Russell said the victim’s
sister told him she was assisting
Ramsey as he
worked on their car in the
driveway of their home.
She went inside the home
and when she returned approximately
20 minutes
later, she found the car had
rolled forward off its jack
and onto her brother,
crushing him.
Russell said he arrived
on scene at the same time
as Monroe County Emergency
Medical Services
personnel and was advised
by paramedic William
Cross that there were no
signs of life following an
examination of Ramsey.
The Monroe County
Rescue Squad transported
Ramsey to Sweetwater
Hospital, where he was
pronounced as deceased,
Russell said.
