Family History : This family descends from the <strong>Salm</strong>-Inferior branch and goes back to<br />
Count Conrad (1720-1768). He became an indigenat of Hungary in 1765. He also acquired<br />
the various lordships, listed above, and all in Moravia.<br />
In 1790, they were promoted to Princes of the Holy Roman Empire, with the<br />
qualification of Hochbeboren. The German Diet later awarded the rank of Durchlaut, in<br />
1825.<br />
The head of the family is addressed as His Serene Highness the Prince and Altgraf of<br />
<strong>Salm</strong>-<strong>Reifferscheidt</strong>-<strong>Raitz</strong>; cadet members are addressed as Altgraf or Altgräfin of the same<br />
name.
