They had an awesome responsibility to do some special review and work for me during this past year with the review and presentation of the Mark Master Mason degree. I would like to thank them sincerely for their efforts on our behalf to make sure that that was done with great pride and great presentation in each of our Chapters throughout this grand jurisdiction. The Grand King, Grand Scribe and Grand Lecturer will assist me in greeting and thanking these Companions for their work. Grand High Priest Address Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master, Grand High Priests who have served before me, Members of the Grand line, distinguished guests, and most importantly Companions of Grand Chapter: Welcome to the 212th Annual Convocation of the Grand Chapter, State of New York, and Royal Arch Masons. It is truly an honor to see so many Companions present this morning. I would like to offer a special welcome to the fine delegation of Grand Lodge Officers with us today. To each of you, I appreciate your support and willingness to take time from your busy schedule to be with us. I know the Grand Master was planning to attend as well, but his recent surgery takes precedence and on behalf of the Grand Chapter and the Companions present, I request that our Deputy Grand Master convey our support for him and our best wishes for a speedy recovery. To our distinguished visitors from Sister Jurisdictions and the Concordant Bodies from New York, may I, on behalf of the Companions from the State of New York, welcome you also with the wish that you enjoy your visit with us at our annual Convocation and that you take some time to speak with our Companions about their pride in being Royal Arch Masons and inquire into the successes of their respective chapters during this past year. Upon your return to your own jurisdictions, please extend our fraternal greetings. (18) 2009
It was indeed an honor to be selected by you to lead one of the premier Masonic Bodies in New York State, Our Grand Chapter, State of New York, Royal Arch Masons. I am truly humbled by the support that each of you has extended to me during my travels throughout this Grand Jurisdiction. Together we made this a year for “Change” for Capitular Masonry in New York. This required us to face up to our “duty” to God, to ourselves and to our companions. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that “nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Further paraphrasing a well-known Mason, Dr Norman Vincent Peale, “Think enthusiastically about your [fraternity.] If you do, you’ll put a touch of glory in your life. If you love your [fraternity] you’ll shake it to pieces. And you’ll love it into greatness.” Well during my visits I personally witnessed that pride and enthusiasm which is everywhere in our Grand Chapter. We have added new members to our ranks, and made our Chapters stronger fostering great pride in our work and in accomplishing these goals. We have made a valiant effort to promote movement within our Chapters and Grand Chapter from being good chapters to becoming Great Chapters as described by Jim Collins in a book called “Good to Great.” Of which I express my sincere thanks to all of you. Therefore companions to make change and prepare for future progress in Royal Arch Masonry, it will be necessary for us all to follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before us “to do our work faithfully and earnestly, so that we can receive our wages with a clear conscience, and with the commendation “Well done, good and faithful servant.” At this time, let us pause here for a few moments to pay respect for those of our Companions who since our last Grand Convocation have moved on to serve a higher purpose with the Great Architect of the Universe. The Grand Chaplains will now conduct the Memorial Service. Memorial Service 2009 R. . .E. . . & Rev. Charles M. Roberts and R. . .E. . . & Rev. Jose L. Valencia, Jr. (Rev. Roberts) - We gather at this moment in memory of one hundred and forty-nine Companions who have been called home by the creator this past year. For those of us who are Grand Chaplains our hearts are heavy laden today for one of our own, Right Excellent Walter Collins, who has now joined that celestial temple. But we also are aware that there are many Companions who have experienced life on this earthly pilgrimage, who have been dedicated to their calling in their fraternity as well as in their personal lives and have now joined that portion of God’s created beings. We ask you to remember them as we pause now in reflection on their lives and for their families who survive them. Following in the worship bulletin: We light this candle in the memory of those of our number who have laid aside their working tools of this earthly life and who have entered into the Heavenly Temple not made with human hands. As this candle burns so should our hearts, in remembrance of our departed Companions, for who they were, for what they have accomplished, and for what they have left entrusted to us to build upon, and for their families who continue their own earthly pilgrimage without their physical presence. If you are able, please stand and join in the Call to Worship (Psalm 46:1- 5, 7) Leader: God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Community: Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. 2009 (19)
