The Seven Holy Founders
of the Servite Order – Fr. Paul
This title refers to the group of men canonized in 1888
and for whom our Parish is named. Today those who staff
the Parish are simply known as Servites or Servite Friars.
Others know us as members of the Order Friar Servants
of Mary, U.S.A. Province. Each month I plan to include a
bulletin column that updates some of the good works taking
place internationally by Friars, Sisters, cloistered
Nuns, and members of the Servite Secular Order. In the
United States our Friars serve in one community in Missouri,
one in Oregon, one in Colorado, four in California,
and four in Illinois. There are others who live outside community
and serve in Florida, California, Ireland, Italy, and
Connecticut. Not all Friars were born where our communities
are located today. I was born in New Jersey, others in
Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, New Mexico,
Vancouver BC, Puerto Rico, West Virginia, Ireland,
Burma, and Wisconsin. The Servite Friars who serve in
our international delegations are considered members of
the Province. This includes those in Perth and Melbourne,
Australia and those in Kwa-Zulu, South Africa. Our Servite
Sisters have Province headquarters in Illinois, Wisconsin
and Nebraska. Secular Servants of Mary are located
throughout the United States, including our Parish
group.
International highlights include: the Solemn profession
of Zulu Servite Sifiso Mchunu, the first Provincial
Chapter of the new Indian (Mary of Unity) Province, the
Archbishop of Florence becoming a Cardinal and assigned
our Servite Parish of San Marcello al Corso as his
Roman titular Church, the first celebration of the Feast of
the Founders in Deir Rafat, Israel, at the Shrine of Our
Lady, Queen of Palestine, the February 25 th Episcopal
ordination of long-time acquaintance Fr, Gaetan Proulx,
OSM as Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Quebec,
Canada, and the June 17, 2012 beatification of Servite
tertiary Cecilia Eusepi of Nepi, Italy.
I have been living in Affton since June 19 th and despite
the rumor, I was NOT responsible for the heat wave
because I root for the American League Angels, (I like the
Cardinals) but I will take credit for it cooling off. Oh!! the
power of prayer. Depending on the weekly schedule of
meetings I hope to take Wednesday as a day off. My participation
in some of the activities of our Parish organizations
will be limited by my being the only Parish Priest.
One of the first events affected will be the Women’s
ACTS Retreat the last week of July. My prayers and support
will be with them as I celebrate the Eucharist those
days. I believe registrations are still being taken. The personal
welcome by so many is appreciated. I will keep
working on the names. Thank you also to all the liturgical
ministers serving on the weekends and at daily Mass. I
hope that we can all get together in August for some reflection
and sharing. Those traveling - be safe.

2nd SHF Women’s ACTS Retreat
(Adoration, Community, Theology and Service)
July 26-29th, Sojourn Retreat Center, Dittmer,
MO. Join us for the 2nd SHF Women's ACTS
Retreat at Sojourn Retreat Center. Retreat starts on
Thursday evening with a brief prayer service at SHF. Participants
are provided transportation to and from the Retreat
Center. Concludes with 11am Mass back at SHF
and a luncheon immediately following Mass. For more

teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals
to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation,
and Eucharist during the Easter season. There

your insights and your faith story in a warm setting. For

A Memorial Mass
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Sr.
Ann Johnson, SL on Saturday, July 28th at
11am here at Seven Holy Founders. All are
welcome to attend.
Sr. Ann passed away on Sunday,
July 1, 2012 at the Sisters of Loretto Motherhouse
in Nerinx, KY. For the past 3 years
Sr. Ann, along with Sr. Dolores Kelledy, SL
have volunteered their time, talents, and
treasures with the Students, Faculty, and
Staff of Seven Holy Founders School. Sr.
Ann was present in the School each day,
tutoring students, helping in the Cafeteria
and doing whatever was asked of her.
Sr. Ann was dearly loved by all and
she loved being here at SHF. Please join us
on Saturday, July 28th at 11am as we celebrate
the passing of this lovely lady into
the presence of her Creator and Redeemer.

or even a broken coffee pot? Bring it for easy drop-off
collection and recycling. Items accepted for recycling
include most electronic equipment and small household
appliances.
CRT computer monitors and TVs will also be accepted
free of charge, but the Parish will not receive monies for
these items.
All other equipment is recycled free of charge!!!
Recycling process includes secure data
destruction and zero landfill!!!
SHF will receive 5 cents per pound of equipment
collected for recycling!!!
Your Help is needed for Holy Cross Academy
As most of you know Annunciation School is going to become Holy Cross Academy Middle School next fall. In order to
make this transition there are many things that need to be accomplished in the school before August 16. This is why we
are asking for the assistance of parishioners and especially all middle school parents. We have a list of items to complete
and we have been meeting with Amie Koenen, the President of Holy Cross Academy, and representatives of St.
Michael’s , Our Lady of Providence and Seven Holy Founders. In these meetings we have prioritized each item as to
importance. We are planning on having more meetings for all who are interested to help with these tasks. We are asking
everyone, and again, especially the Middle School parents to plan on attending. Meeting dates will be published
soon. This will be a great opportunity for all High School Students to obtain needed service hours. We will attempt to
keep these meetings short and focused on the tasks that need to be completed before the start of school to address all
needs at these locations. Thank you in advance for your help and we all understand that to make Holy Cross Academy
be successful it will be truly a team effort. If you can help please contact one of us below and let us know your skill.
