Il corso alterna ore di lingua, insegnate con il metodo della grammatica comunicativa attraverso lo sviluppo<br />
delle 4 abilità (reading, writing, listening and speaking) , e ore di letteratura, storia e “cultura inglese e<br />
americana”, dove si lavorerà in maniera interdisciplinare con i colleghi di italiano e storia e possibilmente<br />
con i colleghi di scienze e fisica per un modulo.<br />

Assessment of holiday homework : oral test on the readings of Ishiguro's Never Let me Go , Hamlet by W.<br />
Shakespeare, Emotional Creature by Eve Ensler, written test on grammar.<br />
During the first term Elspeth Fawler (native speaker English teacher) will work together with me<br />
and the class on speaking activities to enrich the students vocabulary. So far we have worked on<br />
topics related to British culture and inspired to the first 3 units of Headway: parts of the house,<br />
furniture and household equipment. English newspapers and tabloids and language related to<br />
journalism. Holidays, resorts, sport equipment and types of vacation.<br />
Language<br />
Revision of grammar structures studied during the biennio (verb tenses, passive form, reported speech and<br />
3 types of conditional sentence, prepositions, relative clauses).<br />
From Headway Upper Intermediate:<br />
Unit 1: the tense system: simple, continuous, perfect. Active, Passive Form, Compound Nouns, Using<br />
Formal and Informal Language in different contexts,Writing a CV<br />
Unit 2: Present Perfect simple and continuous, Spoken English (being imprecise, fillers). Use of make and<br />
do. Information gap and role play. Talking about trips, means of transport, types of holiday<br />
Unit 3: Narrative Tenses: Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect active and passive. Vocabulary on
ooks and films. Spoken English on news and responses. Showing interest and surprise.<br />
Written test on each unit (except unit 1). Speaking and listening activities will be assessed.<br />

Poetry: The first forms of literature; Epic and Lyric,. How to analyse a poetic text: layout, metre<br />
(foot, iamb and trochee), comparison between the Petrarchan and the Elizabethan sonnet, figures of<br />
speech (sound devices and meaning devices) in context. Analysis of different examples of poetry<br />
(R. Frost, E. Pound, Shakespeare - analysis of 2 sonnets, Shall I compare Thee, and My Mistress<br />
