<strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong> is a Reader in <strong>Dr</strong>iver Behaviour at <strong>Cranfield</strong> <strong>University</strong> and an Associate Fellow of the<br />

British Psychological Society and Chartered Psychologist. She is a member of the Special<br />

Interest Group in <strong>Dr</strong>iving Ergonomics with the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors,<br />

with extensive Human Factors research and teaching experience conducted over the last 24<br />

years. <strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong> graduated with a BSc in Human Psychology and a PhD in driver behaviour<br />

both from Aston <strong>University</strong>. She then held research positions at the Universities of Leicester<br />

and Birmingham and a senior position in industry before joining <strong>Cranfield</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 2001.<br />

She has established an expertise in driver behaviour, particularly focusing on training<br />

interventions to reduce the risk of work related road crashes.<br />

As well as her academic role at <strong>Cranfield</strong>, <strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong> is also President-Elect of the International<br />

Association of Applied Psychology Transportation and Traffic Psychology Division. <strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong> is<br />

Course Director for <strong>Cranfield</strong>’s MSc in <strong>Dr</strong>iver Behaviour and Research Director for<br />

<strong>Dr</strong>iverMetrics, a company wholly owned by <strong>Cranfield</strong> <strong>University</strong> to exploit her research in the<br />

design and development of driver risk assessments for driver educational purposes. <strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong><br />

is invited to give keynote addresses and talks for many organisations across several<br />

countries. She is Chair of the International Conference in <strong>Dr</strong>iver Behaviour and Training. <strong>Dr</strong><br />

<strong>Dorn</strong> is Co-Editor of the Ashgate series ‘Human Factors in Road and Rail Safety’ and has<br />

been responsible for editing 16 books. She has served on the Independent Police Complaints<br />

Commission’s expert panel investigating police related road traffic incidents and advisor to the<br />

Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers. In 2004 she received the<br />

International Prince Michael Award for Road Safety for research with Arriva Bus UK. In 2008<br />

she won the Knowledge Transfer Programme’s ‘Best Application of Social or Management<br />

Science’ in collaboration with Arriva Bus UK.<br />

<strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong> has won over £2million of grant income in the last decade as Principal Investigator<br />

and has over 85 publications. In the last decade, she has worked on a range of EU, EPSRC,<br />

ESRC and consultancy projects on the human factors in driving. <strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong> is in demand by the<br />

media having presented an eight part BBC1 TV series and appeared on many other news<br />

programmes, documentaries and radio stations. <strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Dorn</strong> is regularly invited to peer-review<br />

research council grant applications and journal papers for a number of academic journals. <strong>Dr</strong><br />

<strong>Dorn</strong> currently leads a team of Psychologists working with the private and public sector. She is<br />

currently working with Ingenie on the design and development of black box technology to<br />

address young driver behaviour.<br />
