Increase the capacity <strong>of</strong> the project by training more leaders and ensuring that existing<br />

leaders are retained.<br />

Address development and democracy by equipping experienced cyclists to mentor incoming<br />

participants, and by electing representatives.<br />

Challenge negative public perceptions <strong>of</strong> cyclists by participants distributing information<br />

and publicity, training participants in cycling ‘manners’, and increasing the availability <strong>of</strong><br />

marked cycle lanes.<br />

Improve access to the project by producing a timetable <strong>of</strong> bus routes to cycle venues.<br />

Approach Travelwise about providing training.<br />

Organise evening rides in the summer to encourage participation from different population<br />

groups.<br />

Investigate ways <strong>of</strong> reducing the cost <strong>of</strong> buying bikes, e.g. the prison scheme.<br />

Develop a newsletter or website to help new cyclists find out about other groups or clubs<br />

that they could participate in.<br />

Introduce new, longer cycle routes, developed by experienced participants.<br />

Identify and address the current barriers to participation for black and minority ethnic<br />

groups, to encourage their participation and challenge discrimination.<br />
