What a start to the New Year!
Our first General Meeting/demo and
workshop with Tom Owen were both
a great success. At the “Creme de la
Creme” awards reception, a crowd
of members with family and friends
were impressed with the talent in
the collection of work. Tom was not
only impressed with the show as he
described the award winners, he also
gave SAWG high praise as a top organization
among many Watercolor
Guilds he visits throughout the year.
What am I looking for in 2012?
After giving this year a great deal of
thought, for myself, I need to create
more time for painting. Through
our meetings and receptions, I’m
looking forward to getting better
acquainted with the SAWG membership.
A new volunteer that I talked
to at the last Show Reception had
decided to step up and become
more active in the Guild. She was
having a great time helping out
and being part of the show. What
can members do? There are many
areas to become active, to give your
volunteer hours either as a docent at
the gallery once a month while getting
to know the public and fellow
artists or helping out at various Guild
functions and meetings. Something
as simple as putting announcements
on the chairs at the General meetings
or helping clean up and set up
equipment is a lift to those who do
it. Bringing refreshments to receptions
is another contribution. We all
help to make the Guild the amazing
organization it is growing to be!
For this year as I write my
thoughts in the editorials, who
knows what the future will bring? For
SAWG it looks bright!

ARIZONA
AQUEOUS XXVI
Twenty five SAWG members were juried into
ARIZONA AQUEOUS XXVI, an impressive collection
of paintings on display at the Tubac Center of the Arts
until March 11. Catharine Kim Woodin’s painting was
awarded Best of Show. Others winning awards were
Del Marinello - the Ursus Abstract Award, Mary Whitehead
- Award of Merit, and Robert Luedtke - Jean A.
Burgess Award. Susan Morris’s painting was chosen
for the post card.
Other SAWG members whose work was selected by
Juror, Cynthia Peterson are: Debi Crawford, Nickolette
Bellio, Renee Chastant, Christine Matthey-Becker, Lisa Mishler, Fiona Lovelock,
Helen Jennette, Bess Woodworth, JoAnne Hungate, Loisanne Keller, Kat Manton-Jones,
Bonita Garrett, Lily Rosenberg, Deanna Thibault, Kathy Robbins, Helen Kelly, Barbara
Borgwardt, Marti White, Barbara Strelke and Ruth Tone.
This water media competition places emphasis on innovative approaches to the
medium. In the words of the juror, she selected work that “had a freshness and excellence
in technique, imagery or content, or that went beyond a conventional 2 - dimensional
format of painting.”
Picturas Chiquitas Coming in March!
A favorite SAWG Show in the Tucson community, “Picturas Chiquitas”,
opens March 2 at La Pilita Museum. This colorful downtown exhibit runs
until Friday, March 30.
Plan now to attend the reception on Sat. March 10th from 2-4 p.m.
Once again, the entertaining and talented Las Aquitas Youth Mariachi
Group will perform. Awards will be juried by Nancy Bautzmann.
