Aside from environmental, mechanical
and automotive testing, PTS is also
equipped to test communications and
electro-optics equipment, and measure
electromagnetic compatibility, noise

and vibration, blast, ballistics and
various electrical parameters.
According to Gary Lampard, this
diverse range of testing makes PTS
a fascinating place to work.
“The people that we’ve got here,
particularly the young engineers and
technical officers, really enjoy what
we do,” he said.
“We take work experience kids from
secondary schools and people from
the different DMO graduate programs
and try to show them the opportunities
that exist in this line of work.”

Attracting young technical people
to Defence business has arguably
never been so important. With the
recent record numbers of project
approvals and the threat facing our
land forces continuously changing,
Australia needs a solid base of
technical staff to ensure our troops
are provided with the best possible
equipment. LEA’s continued efforts
to train and retain these technically
skilled workers will no doubt assist
the DMO in responding to the
ADF’s needs.
