One should pick up a pregnant guinea pig in the following manner: hold the guinea pig’s back<br />
with one hand, and the stomach with the other hand and forearm. You must not hold the animal<br />
around the neck because that could cause an abortion.<br />

The female could abort if she is not fed properly or does not have sufficient water. Remember<br />
that guinea pigs drink water from fresh grasses and drinking water.<br />
If the mother is not fed properly during the first weeks of gestation, some of the guinea pigs<br />
inside the womb can die. This is the reason in many cases that there is only one breed born.<br />
