Artistic value aside, this museum has used the artefacts there<strong>in</strong> to expla<strong>in</strong><br />
the Catholic liturgy from its orig<strong>in</strong>, through its historical evolution to its present<br />
form today. Of particular note are the recently completed Chapter<br />
House and Sacristy by the renowned artist Father Marco Rupnik, S.J., who<br />
also designed the Redemptoris Mater Chapel, located <strong>in</strong> The Vatican. Those<br />
who so wish can f<strong>in</strong>ish off their tour by climb<strong>in</strong>g to the top of the cupola.<br />

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are permitted.<br />
None of the staff has any knowledge of Spanish Sign Language (SSL).<br />

Guided tours for people with disabilities must be organized <strong>in</strong> coord<strong>in</strong>ation with<br />
the entity request<strong>in</strong>g the tour.<br />
ACCESS<br />
The entrance is to the right hand side of the cathedral’s ma<strong>in</strong> façade.<br />
In front of the entrance door is a ramp, 1.60 m wide, 1.05 m long and with a<br />
non-recommended <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>e of 21.1%.<br />
The double doors open <strong>in</strong>wards and has a clearance of 1.40 m. It rema<strong>in</strong>s<br />
open dur<strong>in</strong>g public open<strong>in</strong>g times. From the entry vestibule, the ticket office is<br />
reached by descend<strong>in</strong>g a staircase over 1.60 m wide, with 7 steps and a central<br />
handrail. Wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility are taken care<br />
of <strong>in</strong> the vestibule itself.<br />

After purchas<strong>in</strong>g their tickets, visitors without reduced mobility must pass<br />
through a security scanner 65 cm wide on the same floor as the ticket office.<br />

Floor access:<br />
• From the lobby, the first floor is reached by way of a staircase with 11 steps,<br />
with a handrail on one side. There is a stair lift, but it is not suitable for all<br />
types of wheelchair. There is an alternative accessible route through the<br />
cathedral.<br />
• A ramp ≤ 5 m long, ≥ 1.2 m wide and with a non-recommended <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>e of<br />
10.5% leads upwards after the stairs.<br />
• To reach the lift which leads from the first floor to the third floor museum<br />
exhibition rooms, 3 steps have to be negotiated, although there is an alternative<br />
stair lift.<br />
• The museum has 2 exhibition halls, each with a similar elevator which connects<br />
the third floor to the Cupola. The lifts are reserved for visitors with<br />
reduced mobility, and access to them is restricted: museum staff must be<br />
contacted before any visitor is permitted to use them.<br />
• There is a ramp ≤ 6 m long and ≤ 6 m wide, with a non-recommended<br />
<strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>e of 10.5%, opposite the lift which connects Exhibition Hall I to the<br />
Cupola.<br />
• There is a ramp ≤ 6 m long and ≤ 6 m wide, with a suitable <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>e of 6.9%,<br />
opposite the lift which connects Exhibition Hall II to the Cupola.<br />
• There is another lift connect<strong>in</strong>g the third floor and the cathedral at the exit<br />
of the second exhibition hall.<br />
