<strong>Table</strong> 1. Occupational Licenses in <strong>Texas</strong><br />

Type B: residents may require staff assistance to<br />

evacuate, be incapable of following directions<br />

during an emergency, or require attendance<br />

during nighttime sleeping hours. Residents may<br />

not necessarily be permanently bedridden but may<br />

require assistance in transferring to and from a<br />

wheelchair.<br />

Type C: a four-bed facility categorized by DADS<br />

as an adult foster care facility.<br />

Type E: residents must be physically and mentally<br />

capable of evacuating the facility unassisted,<br />

be capable of following directions during an<br />

emergency, and not require routine attendance<br />

during nighttime sleeping hours. The facility may<br />

not provide substantial assistance with activities of<br />

daily living but may provide medication assistance<br />

and general supervision of a resident's welfare.<br />

Authorizes holder to administer, manage,<br />

supervise, or be in general administrative charge<br />

of a nursing facility.<br />

Authorizes holder to establish, conduct, or maintain<br />

a facility that is primarily for the diagnosis,<br />

treatment, or rehabilitation of persons with mental<br />

retardation or related conditions and provides in a<br />

protected setting continuous evaluation, planning,<br />

24-hour supervision, coordination, and integration<br />

of health or rehabilitative services to help each<br />

resident function at the resident's greatest ability.<br />
