Nestled in the corner of St Nicholas’ Church in Durham Market Place, Gateway World Shop has been trading for justice for over 30 years. We support artisans, food producers and special projects from all over the developing world. Gateway is registered with the British Association of Fair Trade Shops (BAFTS) and stocks far more than the stipulated 70% of fairly traded goods needed to be a member. We enjoy longstanding associations with Traidcraft, Tearfund and numerous other Fair Trade suppliers. On our shelves we have many food products with the FAIRTRADE mark, everything from tea, coffee and chocolate to dried fruits, snacks, cereals, rice, pasta, jams and olive oil. Commodities from every corner of the world. Our shop is small and inviting with a huge range of gifts made of wood, metal, paper, pottery and glass. You will find beautiful jewellery, mobiles, amazing embroidered goods, and wonderful accessories along with a warm welcome. Durham City Fair Trade Partnership Meet the people behind the name Durham City Fair Trade Partnership started off in November 2006 as Durham City Fairtrade Steering Group, and its members comprised a Council representative, local committed citizens, school teachers and Sixth Form pupils, representatives from local Fairtrade shops, students, Durham University staff, a handful of local business people, a variety of Church-goers from different denominations, and a Co-op Durham Committee member. Six years later, we still have members from most of the above groups, although our numbers have thinned out a bit. We continue to work well together, planning future activities and areas to work on, and maintaining links with supportive contacts as often as possible. But what we need right now is an injection of new blood, to re-enthuse our commitment, widen our capacity to hold eye-catching events, and bring new ideas to the fore.
