Introduction
Sekator is a new, versatile spring-applied herbicide for the control of broad-leaved
weeds in both winter and spring cereal crops. It contains a unique ratio of two proven,
highly effective, low dose suphonlyurea herbicides – iodosulfuron and amidosulfuron,
formulated as an easy to use water dispersible granule. The combination of these two
herbicides provides control of a wide range of broad-leaved weeds, including early
cleaver control.
Trials results
In field trials Sekator, applied at 300 g/ha, has demonstrated control of a wide range of
broad-leaved weeds.
% control
Sekator (300 g/ha) metsulfuron-methyl (6 g a.i/ha)
Trials data also demonstrates control of early stage cleavers up to the 4 whorl
(< 15 cm) stage when Sekator is applied at 300 g/ha. For even smaller cleavers, trials
show that control can be achieved at a reduced dose rate.
Best use
For optimum results, apply Sekator during warm weather, when the soil is moist and
the weeds actively growing. Dry conditions, resulting in moisture stress, may reduce
effectiveness. Sekator can be used on all soil types. Weed kill with Sekator is slow,
particularly under cool, dry conditions. Sometimes, weeds may only be stunted but
they will normally have little or no competitive effect on the crop.
Applications to spring barley may cause transient crop yellowing, however this should
not affect yield.
Application information
Apply in spring (from 1st February) when the weeds are actively growing at an
appropriate rate according to the susceptibility of the target weed in 200 – 400 litres of
water per hectare. For optimal results, use application techniques which ensure good
weed coverage and crop penetration.
Use up to 400 litres of water per hectare where crops are thick or weeds dense. Apply
using a pressure of 2.5 – 3.0 bar and a spray quality of MEDIUM (BCPC category).
Because some non-target crops are sensitive to Sekator, extreme care is required to
avoid drift on to plants outside the target area.
Herbicides sequences
ALS inhibitors (e.g. sulphonylureas)
Sekator can be applied in sequence or tank-mix with Atlantis WG on winter wheat
when applied as per label instructions.
DO NOT tank-mix or sequence with any other ALS inhibitor.
When Sekator is applied in sequence or tank-mix with Atlantis WG only sow winter
wheat, winter barley, spring wheat, spring barley and sugar beet as following crops in
the normal rotation.
Fop/dims sequences
Allow at least 5 days after application of a fop/dim herbicide before applying Sekator.
Leave 14 days after applying Sekator before applying a fop/dim herbicide.
Resistance management
As part of the Herbicide Resistance Management Strategy for Sekator, do not apply
Sekator in sequence with Atlantis WG for the control of common chickweed. This is in
order to avoid increased selection of herbicide-resistant individuals.
Following crops
After an application of Sekator there are no restrictions on following cereal crops or
crops sown in the spring of the following year.
In addition to cereals, winter oilseed rape and winter field beans may be sown in the
same year as Sekator is applied and these must be preceded by ploughing or thorough
cultivation. A minimum of three months must separate an application of Sekator and
the drilling of winter oilseed rape.
Sprayer cleaning
Very small amounts of Sekator may cause damage to sensitive crops such as oilseed
rape and sugar/fodder beet. To avoid such damage, it is important the spray tank,
boom, hoses, filters and nozzles are thoroughly washed out to remove all traces of
Sekator immediately after spraying. Use a proprietary sprayer cleaner (e.g. All Clear
Extra) according to the label instructions for that product.
Tank-mixes
Sekator is compatible with a wide range of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides,
micronutrients, adjuvants and growth regulators, including 3 and 4-way mixes. Please
check with your distributor agronomist, the Bayer CropScience website or call Bayer
Environmental protection
Do not contaminate surface waters or ditches with chemical or used containers.
Take extreme care to avoid drift onto crops and non-target plants outside the
target area
This product qualifies for inclusion within the Local
Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP)
scheme. Before each spraying operation from a
horizontal boom sprayer either a LERAP must be carried
out in accordance with PSD’s published guidance or the
statutory buffer zone must be maintained. The results of
the LERAP must be recorded and kept available for
three years
DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from horizontal boom sprayers to fall within 5 m
of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody, unless a Local
Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer
zone, or within 1 m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application
DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from hand-held sprayers to fall within 1 m of the
top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody. Aim spray away from water
