Explanatory notes<br />
The notes in the sections headed ‘In simpler terms’ are meant to provide<br />
a less technical explanation of the illness definitions, and some of<br />
the medical terms used in that definition. They are not an alternative<br />
definition of the illness and will not be used to assess claims. If there<br />
is any dispute, the illness ‘definition’ overrules the ‘In simpler terms’<br />
explanation.<br />
1. Alzheimer’s disease – resulting in<br />
permanent symptoms<br />
Plan definition:<br />
A definite diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease by a Consultant Neurologist,<br />
Psychiatrist or Geriatrician. There must be permanent clinical loss of the<br />
ability to do all of the following:<br />
• remember;<br />
• reason; and
