Thanks SCCA Workers! www.Blish.com Page 20 The American Le Mans Series returns to the Great Northwest for another thrilling weekend at Portland International Raceway, the sixth round of the 2006 season. The 2005 edition was a classic, as all four classes set new qualifying and race records. Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro won for Champion Racing last season in a tremendous sports car sprint race. This year’s running of the Grand Prix of Portland is certain to live up to last season’s classic. The Penske Porsche RS Spyder of Romain Dumas of France and Timo Bernhard of Germany scored a fl agto-fl ag LMP2 class victory - their second of the season - at the American Le Mans Series New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. Dumas, who put the Porsche prototype on the overall pole, led the fi eld through the fi rst turn and for the fi rst 40 minutes until relinquishing the overall lead during a yellow fl ag, They regained the overall lead on lap #84 during another yellow fl ag, but lost it back to the more powerful LMP1 Audi R8 on lap #140 when Dumas was caught up in traffi c and Audi’s superior torque powered it by the Porsche to fi nish 11.8 seconds ahead.
The Sascha Maassen/Lucas Luhr Porsche RS Spyder, who qualifi ed second overall and second in LMP2, was running second on lap #7 when hit by a lapped car, and suffered a fl at tire and nose damage, losing 21 positions and three laps during the pit stop. Maassen re-entered the race after the stop, and brought the car through heavy traffi c all the way back to third place overall and second in class by the time he handed the car the Luhr. Lucas brought the car home in second place in LMP2, and now he and Sascha are within fi ve points of the LMP2 Drivers Championship lead. Thanks SCCA Workers! www.Blish.com Page 21
