Dave Franks, Michael Gatza, Judy Cox, Jim Daniels
Members: Mary Thompson, Karen McCoy, Bob Smethers, Randy Unsbee,
Paul Eklund Absent: John Elkin, Bud Mansur
CALL TO ORDER – Jeff called the meeting to order at 7:10.
MEMBER COMMENTS – None
NEW BUSINESS – None
REGIONAL OFFICE REPORT – Karen reported 161.5 hours for the month
of May and feels that June should be about the same. She reported on our
involvement at the ATV show. Rally provided a very nice display of one of
their cars and it did draw a lot of interest. The region on a whole did not
generate much interest from this group and Karen felt that it might have been
the wrong fi t for our type of racing.
Karen played a short video that Ntl had sent out that is targeted at recruitment.
Additional copies for any interested can be obtained from Ntl. for
$10 each. The Region fi nancial status was presented by Karen with some
suggestions from Paul that might better clarify some items for the general
membership. Karen will look into this for the future.
The Road Race fi nancial status was presented and discussed with Todd advising
that the fi gures are looking positive. Note: These fi nancial reports are
always available in the offi ce for viewing by any interested members in good
standing. As of today before leaving the offi ce Karen had 265 entries for
Rose Cup and the fax was going as she left.
Karen expressed her desire to re-locate the region offi ce to a site that would
allow more space. She has folks volunteer to assist before the events but
there is no room to accept their help. The lease on the present site is up
on Oct 31st and she would consider it a, “big treat” if she could be out of
there before that time. Jeff asked all who might have any info on a site to
let Karen know and that he will have Don Smethers be on the search for a
site as well.
Karen mentioned that she had a call from a driver who expressed his pleasure
at the service that he receives from Or. Region. He said that he has raced
elsewhere but fi nds the pleasant nature of those that he deals with here to
be the best.
TREASURER REPORT – None
LOUD PEDAL REPORT – Jeff started out this report by saying that he had
a positive comment from a member saying that the LP seemed to be getting
back to its good old self!
Randy reported that the ad sales are going well and he is pleased to advise
that sponsorship has been secured to cover all of the worker meals for the
season. He is already busy at work on next year’s sponsors as well. He
reported $11K worth of sponsor advertising sold with expenses for selling,
which include commission, fees, fees to advertise sponsors at additional sites
etc. running a little over $3K.
Jim Daniels asked if he could work on a title sponsor for Solo & Rally as
well as Road Race. Randy advised that he takes every opportunity he can
fi nd to solicit business for all venues and will continue to do so.
COMMITTEE & DIRECTOR REPORTS:
OREGON SCCA PROPERTIES REPORT – Jeff talked about a site that the
committee visited in Sheridan but that they considered the terrain too steep
for our use. This did however; provide the group with some good contacts
who will be on the lookout for suitable acreage.
RACE OP’S REPORT – Bob reported on the Chief’s meeting that was held
at The Columbia Cottage in No. Portland and catered by Kenton. They are
trying to hold these meetings as well as others that may be needed in the No.
Portland area to show our commitment to the neighborhood. Michael suggested
that perhaps there would be a site in that area that would be conducive
to holding future banquets as well. Bob advised that Race Op’s and the chiefs
are set and ready for the upcoming Rose Cup weekend.
DIRECTOR’S REPORTS –
SOLO II REPORT – Michael reports that Solo is doing well. They are preparing
for an outing in Packwood this next weekend. This is a good facility
and hopefully the rain will not dampen too many solo spirits. However, they
do expect a smaller turnout than usual because of the possibility of rain and
other events that are confl icting.
Page 22
He also mentioned that the rental of $1K for this site in Packwood goes
entirely to a local charity that benefi ts families in need. Jeff mentioned that
this is also a positive for the region as we are required as a non-profi t organization
to donate a % to charity each year.
July 1 Novice School is half full to date and should be a positive event. A
new treasurer resides on the Solo team and Michael presented and explained
their expense sheet to the group. Karen reminded Michael that she still needs
serial numbers of the equipment that Solo owns. Michael has the list and
will get it to her shortly.
RALLY REPORT – Absent, Jeff had met with John the day before the meeting
and he advised that all of their planning for up-coming events is on
track.
DIRECTOR I REPORT – Jim noted that Oregon Region membership income
is 33% ahead of forecast for the year to date. Jim also thanked Karen
for spearheading the involvement at the ATV Show for the region.
DIRECTOR II REPORT – Judy has received word from Carrie Sutherland
that she will once again take on the job of awards for the 2006-2007 banquet.
Judy is still researching caterers for the banquet and will make a decision
shortly. She will also start seeking members who are interested in running
for election to the BOD. Several current members gave her notice that they
will not seek re-election.
ROAD RACING DIRECTOR REPORT –
Todd reported that the July sanction is into Ntl. and the schedule has been
prepared. We will have a Dbl. Regional on Sat/Sun with the HPDE on Monday.
Todd requested some help from Solo to lend helmets for the HPDE
event and they advised that they were happy to help.
Todd mentioned that there has been some vandalism on site at PIR of region
vehicles that are stored there. A few of the groups that store vehicles there
have suggested looking into some good fencing for the area that would deter
this activity. Any expense to be shared by PIR and the other involved
groups. Michael mentioned that his group would like to be a part of this and
would allocate a sum to the cause. Jeff said that he too was aware of this and
asked for BOD approval to be able to place the regions offer of up to 3K
from Road Race & Solo. M/S (Win/Jim) M/P
PAST RE – Win has been asked about a Ferrari track day and was wondering
if anyone had information concerning one. Todd advised that he was aware
of a test day and an up-coming event in August called , Ferrari Challenge. In
reading the latest SportsCar Win was concerned because it did not seem that
there was much coverage on Oregon Region and our program. Randy said
that he would follow up with some current to them and Jeff advised that he
would mention it to Howard as well.
ASST RE REPORT - No Report
RE COMMENTS – Jeff attended a meeting concerning the sound variance
required by Champ Car and said that he felt that the city council created
a very negative atmosphere concerning the issue. He spoke on behalf of
Champ Car. There were about ten North Portland residents in attendance
and they spoke at length about how undesirable the track is where it is located.
He also reinforced the recommendation that Dave gave to the BOD last
month that we should form a political action group of the tracks users to assist
in our efforts to save PIR. Jeff has agreed to head up such a committee
to get it organized and off the ground.
Global has requested worker coverage by F&C on Wednesday of Champ
Car week. Jeff negotiated with them on this and we will provide the needed
workers.
Jeff mentioned that in April he, Ben & Howard had the opportunity to staff
a test day for the Mercury Mariner vehicle that was hosted by Wild Oats
Mkt. The region received $100 for their involvement. He said that it was an
enjoyable day and that the vehicle surprised him with its performance.
M/S to adjourn at 9:45 (Dave/Win) M/P
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Thompson
