David Hirsch, Sail Designer
A leader in sail design for over 20 years, and a
member of Norths Performance Resource Group
(PRG). David designed the sail inventory for the
Mumm 30 with special emphasis on developing
REGATTA 3DL sails and Asymmetric spinnakers. A
veteran of seven America’s Cup syndicates and
many grand prix racing programs, David’s
expertise in sail analysis are what make North
sails consistently fast out of the bag.
Andreas Josenhans, Performance Development
Andreas is an expert in developing boat speed
and tuning. Involved in a variety of grand prix
projects, Andreas is a winner of six world
championships in one design and a veteran of
three America’s Cup syndicates. Andreas was the
sail coordinator for Pact ’95 in the recent
America’s Cup. Andreas is a member of the
Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.
Dave Scott, Product Development
Dave’s wide range of experience onboard all types
of racing boats makes de-bugging and speed
development look easy. A sailmaker with North
since 1986, Dave is constantly on the go sailing
with clients from Mumm 36s to SuperYachts
where he has cultivated a reputation for
consistency and diligence. When Dave sails for
fun, he’s a heck of a helmsman, too.
Grant (Fuzz) Spanhake, Product Development
Author- Mumm 30 tuning guide. Following the
‘95 America’s Cup where he was a tailer onboard
Young America, Fuzz works as a consultant to
North on special projects. Previous America’s
Cup experience includes Team New Zealand in
‘87-(tailer), and coach for B. Koch’s ‘92 defense.
In the Whitbread, Fuzz raced onboard Lion New
Zealand in ‘84 & in ‘89 on Fisher & Paykel.
Luc DuBois & J.P. Baudet, 3DL Inventors
Swiss natives, sailmaker J.P. Baudet raced
onboard Whitbread winner, UBS Switzerland in
‘84 and was the Sail Coordinator to Merit in ’88.
Teaming up with engineer Luc DuBois, they
introduced 3DL to North Sails in 1989, creating a
sailmaking revolution. J.P. heads 3DL R&D where
new applications of 3DL in one design and club
racers will make sails lighter, faster and more
affordable.
