Economic Outlook 2011 www.china.ahk.de January 2011 After achieving strong economic growth in 2010, the government’s policies are attempting to prevent an overheating economy. Inflation and the widening income gap appear to be key issues in 2011. The end of 2010 already saw interest rate adjustments and limits to bank loans. Changes to social insurances such as health care or housing allowances have also been announced or are in planning. Pressure on the RMB revaluation as well as the government’s aim for greater internationalization will also have an impact on business activities in China. It is expected that consumption growth will remain strong and make a greater contribution to GDP growth as exports are anticipated to slow down. This development will be in line with the government’s aims to reduce China’s large trade surpluses with most major economies. After achieving again double digit growth of around 10% in 2010, most expect the GDP growth to slow by about 1% in 2011. Currently the government needs to deal with major challenges which have emerged with its rapidly growing economy. Measures to control inflation and investments have been introduced and much of the upcoming macroeconomic policies will depend on how successful the already implemented measures are. Read the full outlook on http://china.ahk.de/Home/Chamber/South China/Economic Update Sichuan / Chongqing Highlights Key Projects Fostering Chongqing’s Lead in Developing Western China Save the Date <strong>Events</strong> in West China Key macroeconomic developments: Inflation target: 4% (+1%) GDP growth: around 9% (-1%) Key policies: - Reduction of income disparities - Continuous efforts to reduce the rural-urban gap - Measures to upgrade industrial composition focusing on key industries (renewable energy, biotechnology, IT, high-end electronic equipment and advanced materials) - Reduction of trade imbalances - Boost local consumption - Internationalization and appreciation of RMB GCC South & Southwest China invited to “Meet the Chongqing Economic and Informalization Commission” - a unique chance to receive some first-hand information on development projects in Western China. A small group of participants did not hesitate and attended the event on 1 st December to discuss some key projects which foster Chongqing’s lead in developing Western China. Mr. Hu Jianbo of the Economic and Informalization Commission outlined Chongqing’s key projects in infrastructure, finance and logistics.
