Too young
for reading
glasses?
If you’re having trouble
reading things up
close - and perhaps
you are holding this
at arms length for a
clearer focus, it’s likely
you’re experiencing
presbyopia. A naturally
occurring vision
condition, which starts
to affect most people in
their forties.
6
Eye on the
facts…
Presbyopia
despite its prevalence, over
40% of people over 40 are
unaware of it:
n 80% find reading medicine and
food labels a struggle
n 65% find close-up work like
sewing or craftwork difficult
n 52% find using a PC problematic
Astigmatism doesn’t
have to hold you back!
Astigmatism is a common
condition and is usually
present from birth. It
occurs when the front
part of the eye, the cornea,
is not a regular
symmetrical spherical
shape - like a football.
Instead, its shape is more
like that of a rugby ball
- longer in one direction
than the other.
Because the cornea is an
irregular shape, the eye
has difficulty focusing
properly.
When this happens, the
person’s vision may be
blurred and the individual
may struggle to focus or
read. They may also
complain of tired or dry
eyes, and headaches.
If the thought of having to
carry around glasses
everywhere sounds onerous
or if you are self-conscious
about being seen needing
glasses when out and about,
you might be interested to
know that with multi-focal
contact lenses, such as Bausch
& Lomb PureVision ® , you’ll
be able to see clearly at all
distances. This means that
you can continue to lead a full
and active lifestyle and no-one
need know you are wearing
contact lenses!
Correction is often
offered through
spectacles. However in
most cases, astigmatism
can be corrected by
wearing specially-designed
contact lenses such as
SofLens® daily disposable
Toric for Astigmatism.
