Additionally, surface water resources in some areas receive untreated biological wastes from medical facilities; receiving waters for medical wastes include: (1) the Kvabliani river and its tributary the Otskhe river downstream of Abastumani village; (2) The Mtkvari river and its tributaries of the Borjomula river and the Gujaretistskali river in the Borjomi region; (3) the Mtkvari river and its tributary the Ksani river in the Mtskheta region: and (4) the Vere river within Tbilisi city limits. Georgia is party to international agreements on Air Pollution, Biodiversity, Climate Change, Desertification, Endangered Species, Hazardous Wastes, Law of the Sea, Ozone Layer Protection, Ship Pollution, and Wetlands. Natural hazards include earthquakes, which must be considered for the construction of hydroelectric dam projects. The Aragvi River Basin Final SEA Report on the Aragvi River Basin, 30 March 2010, Page 37 2.2.1 Physico-geographic description of the Aragvi River Basin Figure 3: Landscape in the Aragvi River Basin The Aragvi River Basin (total area 2,724 km 2 ) is situated on the southern slope of the Caucasus. The altitudes range from 800-900 m to 2,700-3,500 m. The region is made of sandstone, slate, and limestone. It is characterised by a dense riverine network of 716 rivers with the total length of 1,926 km. The Aragvi River is 112 km long. Lake Bazaleti and the Jinvali Reservoir (capacity 520 million m 3 , surface area 11.5 km 2 , maximum depth 98 m), which was formed in 1986 by enclosing the river bed, are also located in the basin.
