for iT and Telecommunications. Deputy<br />

Khalifa attended. The panel approved a<br />

strategy of electronic participation through<br />

social networking websites <strong>to</strong> consolidate<br />

the use of such networks as a means of<br />

communication <strong>be</strong>tween government<br />

departments and society <strong>to</strong> promote<br />

transparency.<br />

n Peace role hailed<br />

Ahmed Al Khalifa yesterday received<br />

executive direc<strong>to</strong>r for peace affairs<br />

at Soka gakkai international (Sgi)<br />

Hirotsugu Terasaki. He hailed the<br />

key role played by Sgi in promoting<br />

a culture of peace and <strong>to</strong>ok pride in<br />

Manama <strong>be</strong>ing chosen as the first<br />

city in the Middle east <strong>to</strong> host “From<br />

a Culture of Violence <strong>to</strong> a Culture<br />

of Peace –Towards a World Free of<br />

nuclear Weapons” exhibition, which<br />

n Payout agreement<br />

THe Bahrain Air Workers’ Association<br />

has agreed <strong>to</strong> a proposal submitted by<br />

the liquida<strong>to</strong>rs of Bahrain Air Company<br />

regarding a mechanism for disbursement<br />

of labour dues. under the deal the<br />

company will pay part of arrears <strong>to</strong><br />

employees who have lost their jobs as a<br />

result of the airline’s voluntary liquidation<br />

last month, Labour Ministry undersecretary<br />

sabah Al Dosary said yesterday.<br />

He said the liquida<strong>to</strong>r will remit part<br />

of these dues in<strong>to</strong> the bank accounts of<br />

<strong>be</strong>neficiaries provided that the remaining<br />

dues will <strong>be</strong> paid after dispensing with the<br />

company’s material as<strong>set</strong>s in accordance<br />

with its written undertaking brokered by<br />

the Labour Ministry.<br />

nuaimi yesterday inspected a class of<br />

Human Rights mem<strong>be</strong>rs led by president Dr Abdulaziz Abul and<br />

deputy president Dr Abdulla Al Deerazi.<br />

n His Majesty yesterday received an invitation from the Amir of<br />

Qatar, Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, <strong>to</strong> attend the 24th Arab<br />

Summit in Doha, on March 26 and 27. The letter was handed over<br />

by Qatari Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Thamer Al Thani <strong>to</strong><br />

Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. The Foreign<br />

Iran terror link slammed<br />

inTeRioR Minister shaikh Rashid<br />

bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday condemned<br />

iran for supporting terror cells<br />

trying <strong>to</strong> jeopardise Bahrain’s security<br />

and stability.<br />

This came as he addressed the 30th<br />

session of the Arab interior Ministers’<br />

Council in Riyadh.<br />

bin Abdulaziz Al saud.<br />

“Bahrain has witnessed acts of vandalism,<br />

blocking of roads and attacks on<br />

policemen. These acts went <strong>be</strong>yond rioting<br />

terror crimes. Police forces are dealing<br />

with armed groups and not peaceful rallies,”<br />

shaikh Rashid said.<br />

He said security forces have succeeded<br />

in uncovering a terror cell after<br />

investigating its mem<strong>be</strong>rs, their movement<br />

and training locations. Through<br />

their confessions and other evidences,<br />

the involvement of iran’s Revolutionary<br />

Guards was revealed. This, he said,<br />

reflects Tehran’s interference in the<br />

internal security affairs of Bahrain.<br />

“This requires an Arab stance that<br />

is more than condemnation, <strong>to</strong> take<br />

efforts by Bahrain and Yemen <strong>to</strong> fight<br />

terrorism and the role that security forces<br />

are playing in uncovering criminal<br />

plots.<br />

The council renewed its condemnation<br />

of all forms of terrorism and<br />

stressed its commitment <strong>to</strong> reinforce<br />

Arab co-ordination and co-operation in<br />

combating terror plots and organised<br />

crime.<br />

it also called upon all mem<strong>be</strong>r states<br />

<strong>to</strong> support the efforts of saudi Arabia in<br />

fighting extremism.<br />

The council welcomed an invitation<br />

from iraq <strong>to</strong> hold a conference on fighting<br />

terrorism in the Arab world in May.<br />
