Dispute over letterheads
A DEBATE about official council letterheads
led to a heated discussion between councillors
and municipality officials yesterday.
Councillors requested they include the crest of
Bahrain, Muharraq Municipal Council official
logo as well as the name of the councillor sending
the letter.
But municipality officials said it would contravene
council laws.
“We have the right to request letters the way
we would like them to represent this council,”
said councillor Ghazi Al Murbati during the
council’s bi-weekly meeting in its Muharraq
headquarters.
“It is the least of our rights and it should not
be taken lightly.”
Municipality human resources department
representative Ahmed Janahi tried to explain
the situation, but was cut off when councillors
refused to agree to the terms.
“If this is the situation then what is the point of
us carrying official cards with our names and the
Muharraq Municipal Council logo on it,” said
councillor Mohammed Al Mutawa.
“Northern Municipal councillors have done
this and did not face such complications or were
stopped by laws.”
Council chairman Abdulnasser Al Mahmeed
urged councillors to forward the issue to
Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs
Minister Dr Juma Al Ka’abi for a final decision,
which was unanimously approved.
