Technical Advisory Committee
Chair: Mark Turner, Best Communities by Landmark
The Technical Advisory Committee serves as the over-arching umbrella body for all of the Technical
Committees, providing both internal coordination and external liaison to the Government Relations
Committee and the Communications Committee in particular and to such other committees and agencies
as may be necessary. This committee reports to the Executive Officer and is comprised of the chairs of its
respective Tech Committees.
The Technical Advisory Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 12:00 pm.

Renovation Committee

Vice Chair: Rafal Milczynski, Gwidon Homes & Renos Ltd.
The Renovation Committee promotes professionalism, consumer awareness and education in the
renovation industry. The group will also advise on technical issues specific to renovations. This
Committee also administers the Renomark Program. This work group reports to the Technical Advisory
Committee (TAC) and as such the Chair or Vice Chair shall sit on TAC to report on the Renovation
Committee activities.
The Renovation Committee meets every third Thursday of each month at 12:00 pm.

Residential Safety Committee
Chair: Frank Sobolewski, Daytona Homes Master Builder
The Residential Safety Committee provides a forum or safety discussions, related action and educating
and informing members on matters related to job site safety and overall industry health and safety. This
Committee also administers the COR/SECOR and Smoke Detector Programs. This Committee reports to
the Technical Advisory Committee and, as such, the Chair or Vice-Chair will sit on TAC to report
Residential Safety activities.

Economic Forum Committee
Chair: Richard Goatcher, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
The Economic Committee will consist of those who have an interest in understanding current economic
conditions and forecasting future trends for the home building industry. The role of this committee is to
provide a forum for members to discuss current trends in the economy and housing markets. This
Committee will report to the Technical Advisory Committee.
This Economic Forum Committee will meet every two months at 12:00 pm

Economic Forecast Sub-Committee
Chair: Richard Goatcher, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation
Role of the Committee:
• This committee will be comprised of experts in the field of economics.
• Committee will meet quarterly to discuss forceable trends & to produce a newsletter including
trends in the housing industry.
• Volunteers on the committee will be involved with the CHBA-ER members; taking input,
creating surveys, etc.
• Reports to Economic Committee

Single Family Committee
The Single Family Committee will comprise of CHBA-ER single family builder members. This
committee will act as a forum to discuss building issues, any news in the industry related to single family
homes, and as a mentorship towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee reports to
TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair will sit in as the Single Family Committee representative.
Multi Family Committee
The Multi Family Committee will comprise of CHBA-ER multi family builder members. This committee
will act as a forum to discuss building issues, any news in the industry related to multi family homes, and
act a mentorship towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee reports to TAC, as
such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit in as the Multi Family Committee Representative.
Development Committee
The Development Committee will be comprised of CHBA-ER developer members. This committee will
act as a forum to discuss development issues, any news in the industry related to development, and as a
mentorship towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee reports to TAC and, as
such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Development Committee representative.
Environmental Committee
The Environmental Committee will consist of those members who an interest in the impact the industry
has on its environment. This committee will be responsible for creating more awareness within the
Association members and public about what companies can be doing to minimize environmental damage.

This committee also administers the Built Green Program. The committee reports to TAC and, as such, its
Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Environmental Committee Representative.
Human Resources Committee
The Human Resources Committee will exist to advise on HR best practices in the home building industry,
education and skill upgrades/needs, labour market forecasting, labour attraction and retention and career
development. Committee meetings will also be used as an open forum to discuss any issues or concerns.
This committee will also administer the Alberta Builder Connect Program. This committee reports to
TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Human Resource Committee representative.
Security Committee
The Security Committee will consist of a group of members working towards building programs to
reduce the impact of theft and vandalism on the job sites. This Committee also administers the Hands-Off
Program. This committee reports to TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Security
Committee representative.
General Committee
The General Committee will be comprised of CHBA-ER General members. This committee will act as a
forum to discuss any issues in the industry that are impacting the sales and productions of companies, as
well as act as a mentorship group towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee
reports to TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the General Committee representative.
Sales Committee
The Sales Committee will comprise of the sales staff within the CHBA-ER member companies. This
committee will act as a forum to discuss any issues in the industry that are impacting sales volumes. As
well as act as a support group and mentor each other to better themselves and the industry. This
Committee also administers the Builder/Realtor Program. This committee reports to TAC and, as such, its
Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Sales Committee representative.
Education Committee
The role of the Education Committee is to ensure the development , provision, and promotion of a
continuing education program for the members. To do this the Committee will:

• Coordinate its efforts with PHBIA;
• Where necessary, initiating programming directly;
• Encore members to become certified
• In concert with the Member Services Manager, develop sponsorship opportunities;
• Develop and monitor an annual budget
This committee reports to the Executive Officer.
Dinner Meeting Committee
The role of the Dinner Meeting Committee is to develop and deliver a program of presentations and
events that provide informative and entertaining networking opportunities for members. To do this the
Committee will:
• Create a Syllabus of entertaining and informative presentations;
• Select venues that are suitable for these presentations;
• In concert with the member Services Manager, developing sponsorship opportunities
• Develop and monitor an annual budget
This Committee reports to the Executive Officer.
Breakfast Meeting Committee
The role of the Breakfast Meeting Committee is to develop and deliver a program of presentations to the
membership on technical matters relevant to the industry. To do this the Committee will:
• Coordinate its efforts with PHBIA in the recruitment of speakers;
• Solicit relevant industry speakers;
• Select venues that are suitable for these presentations;
• In concert with the Member Services Manager, develop sponsorship opportunities

• Develop and monitor an annual budget

Luncheon Committee
The role of the Luncheon Committee is to develop and deliver a program of presentations to the
membership on business matters relevant to the industry. To do this the Committee will:
• Coordinate its efforts with PHBIA in the recruitment of speakers;
• Solicit relevant industry speakers;
• Select venues that are suitable for these presentations;
• In concert with the Member Service Manager, develop sponsorship opportunities
• Develop and monitor an annual budget

Awards of Excellence Committee
Chair: Steve Ruggiero, Kimberley Homes
The role of the Awards of Excellence Committee is to develop and deliver an awards program
recognizing excellence in all aspects of the home building and renovation industry. To do this the
Committee will:
• Develop and implement an effective and transparent judging process;
• Develop and deliver a gala event for the industry to present awards to those nominated in the
judging process.

Outreach Committee

The role of the Outreach Committee is to coordinate the CHBA-ER’s support of the philanthropic
activities of the Edmonton Region Homebuilder Charity Funds (ERHC). In support of non-profit housing,
trade scholarships, and such other community activities as are deemed appropriate to the ERHC’s stated
goals and objectives. This committee will coordinate its efforts with the Member Services Manager. This
committee reports to the Executive Officer.
2010 Golf Committee
Chair: Gil Girard, Barcol Doors & Windows
The role of the Golf Committee is to provide a relaxing, enjoyable social event that futhers networking
opportunities for the membership. To do this the Committee will:
• Determine golf date & location of tournament.
• Determine AM/PM event, or both
• Coordinate sponsorship and donation opportunities and recognition with the Member Services
Manager.

• Coordinate food and beverages (Breakfast, BBQ & Holes)

Slo-Pitch Committee
The role of the Slo-Pitch Committee is to provide a relaxing, enjoyable social event that furthers
networking opportunities for the membership. To do this the Committee will:
• Determine tournament dates
• Book softball diamonds
• Develop and monitor an annual budget
• Determine teams & playing schedules
• Purchase supplies for tournament such as balls etc
• Coordinate sponsorship & donation opportunities and recognition with the Member Services
Manager

CHBA-ER Convention Committee
Chair: Nick Iozzo
The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver a technical convention that provides professional
development, education, and networking for the industry, while generating a significant profit. This
committee will directly be involved in the planning and execution of future Technical Conventions. The
2-3 day event will be directly tailored to the Home Building industry with concurrent industry based
sessions, keynote speakers, education courses, a tradeshow, and many networking and social
opportunities.
The Technical Convention Committee reports to the Executive Officer.
CHBA-ER Convention Sub-Committees:
Technical: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver the concurrent, plenary, educational, and
poster programs.
Social: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver the social and networking opportunities,
including luncheons, ice-breaker reception, entertainment, and wind-up party.
Special Events: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver unique programs and activities that
further the goals of the event.
Tradeshow: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver a technical trade show, enabling
General Members to showcase their products in an industry-specific environment to their current and
prospective clients.

Government Relations Committee
Chair: Sandra Young, CHBA-ER President
The role of this committee is to proactively represent the interests of the home building industry in the
Capital Region to government. On matters of a provincial or national nature, the Government Relations
Committee will coordinate through its provincial and national counterparts within the CHBA. Volunteers
on this committee assist in developing and maintaining relationships with political and administrative
representatives within jurisdictions of the Capital Region. They monitor and, with input from appropriate
committees within the CHBA-ER, initiate plans, policies and interpretations presented by and to the
Capital Region Municipalities and create appropriate responses to issues identified.
The Government Relations Committee reports to the Board of Directors through the Executive Officer.

Communications Committee:
The role of this Committee is to provide policy and guidance in all matters of CHBA-ER internal and
external communications matters and mediums including, but not limited to, print and electronic
mediums, and marketing (including public and media relations, and industry promotion). All activities of
this Committee and its sub-committees will involve intimate coordination with the Member Services
Manager. This Committee reports to the Executive Officer.
Magazine Committee
Communications Sub-Committees:
CHBA-ER will be launching its very own Homebuilders magazine. This printed, full color, high gloss
industry magazine will serve as a primary promotional tool for the Association. From developing themes
and organizing content, to organizing layouts, the CHBA-ER will be reliant on volunteer support to help
get the job done. This will be profit centre and, as such will rely heavily on maintaining at least 50%
advertising ratio, achieved in concert with the Member Services Manager.
The Magazine Committee reports to the Communications Committee.
Website Committee
Chair: Nick Iozzo
Providing members and the public with current, interactive and user-friendly website is one of our top
priorities. Although the updated site is set to launch later this month, volunteer members will be required
to ensure its maintained relevance and functionality, develop an effective Search Engine Optimization
strategy, and more.
The Website Committee reports to the Communications Committee.
E-Newsletter Committee
The role of this Committee is to provide temporary coverage of direct communication with members on
matters of a time-sensitive or urgent nature until such time as the website is able to effectively assume this
function.
This Committee reports to the Executive Officer through the Communications Committee.

Marketing Committee
The role of this Committee is to coordinate the marketing activities of the CHBA-ER on behalf of both
the Association and in support of the industry, including but not limited to the Public Relations, Media
Relations, and promotional activities and programs. This Committee reports to the Communications
Committee.
Public Relations Committee
The Public Relations Committee serves to promote the association and its members as ‘experts in the
field of residential construction’. The committee will be responsible for developing marketing and
branding strategies for the association, with the goal of increasing public awareness of the CHBA-ER and
the home building and renovation industry while enhancing the reputation of homebuilders throughout the
Edmonton region. This Committee also administers the Get It In Writing Program.
The Public Relations Committee reports to the Communications Committee.
Media Relations Committee
The Media Relations Committee will develop and implement an effective media relations strategy for the
Association. Members will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with local
media, developing key messages, and coordinating timely and relevant articles and interviews on behalf
of the CHBA-ER.
The Media Relations Committee reports to the Communications Committee.

Volunteer Management Committee
The CHBA-ER Volunteer Management Committee serves to promote the Association and its goal to be
‘member driven’. This committee will be broken up into three sub-committees to better serve our
volunteer members:
The Recruiting Committee:
• Responsible for recruiting volunteer members for our existing and new committees being
introduced. Methods of recruiting will be determined by the Chair and support team of this
committee.
The Orientation/Training Committee:
• Assist the Volunteer Manager with organizing Volunteer Orientation events for interested
members.
• Assist the Volunteer Manager and committee chair in training the volunteer members so that they
can be as effective as possible in their roles within their chosen committees.
Monitoring/ Volunteer Recognition Committee:
• Assist the Volunteer Manager with monitoring volunteer members; which committee our
members volunteer on, are the members satisfied with their experience as a volunteer, meetings
missed/attended, hours/years volunteered etc.
• Assist the Volunteer Manager with developing and implementing a Volunteer Recognition
Program.
The Volunteer Management Committee reports to the Executive Officer.
