Technical Advisory Committee<br />

Chair: Mark Turner, Best Communities by Landmark<br />

The Technical Advisory Committee serves as the over-arching umbrella body for all of the Technical<br />

Committees, providing both internal coordination and external liaison to the Government Relations<br />

Committee and the Communications Committee in particular and to such other committees and agencies<br />

as may be necessary. This committee reports to the Executive Officer and is comprised of the chairs of its<br />

respective Tech Committees.<br />

The Technical Advisory Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 12:00 pm.<br />

Renovation Committee<br />

The Renovation Committee promotes professionalism, consumer awareness and education in the<br />

renovation industry. The group will also advise on technical issues specific to renovations. This<br />

Committee also administers the Renomark Program. This work group reports to the Technical Advisory<br />

Committee (TAC) and as such the Chair or Vice Chair shall sit on TAC to report on the Renovation<br />

Committee activities.<br />

The Renovation Committee meets every third Thursday of each month at 12:00 pm.<br />

Residential Safety Committee<br />

The Residential Safety Committee provides a forum or safety discussions, related action and educating<br />

and informing members on matters related to job site safety and overall industry health and safety. This<br />

Committee also administers the COR/SECOR and Smoke Detector Programs. This Committee reports to<br />

the Technical Advisory Committee and, as such, the Chair or Vice-Chair will sit on TAC to report<br />

Residential Safety activities.<br />

Economic Forum Committee<br />

Chair: Richard Goatcher, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation<br />

The Economic Committee will consist of those who have an interest in understanding current economic<br />

conditions and forecasting future trends for the home building industry. The role of this committee is to<br />

provide a forum for members to discuss current trends in the economy and housing markets. This<br />

Committee will report to the Technical Advisory Committee.<br />

Economic Forecast Sub-Committee<br />

Chair: Richard Goatcher, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation<br />

Role of the Committee:<br />

• This committee will be comprised of experts in the field of economics.<br />

• Committee will meet quarterly to discuss forceable trends & to produce a newsletter including<br />

trends in the housing industry.<br />

• Volunteers on the committee will be involved with the CHBA-ER members; taking input,<br />

creating surveys, etc.<br />

• Reports to Economic Committee


Single Family Committee<br />

The Single Family Committee will comprise of CHBA-ER single family builder members. This<br />

committee will act as a forum to discuss building issues, any news in the industry related to single family<br />

homes, and as a mentorship towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee reports to<br />

TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair will sit in as the Single Family Committee representative.<br />

Multi Family Committee<br />

The Multi Family Committee will comprise of CHBA-ER multi family builder members. This committee<br />

will act as a forum to discuss building issues, any news in the industry related to multi family homes, and<br />

act a mentorship towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee reports to TAC, as<br />

such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit in as the Multi Family Committee Representative.<br />

Development Committee<br />

The Development Committee will be comprised of CHBA-ER developer members. This committee will<br />

act as a forum to discuss development issues, any news in the industry related to development, and as a<br />

mentorship towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee reports to TAC and, as<br />

such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Development Committee representative.<br />

Environmental Committee<br />

The Environmental Committee will consist of those members who an interest in the impact the industry<br />

has on its environment. This committee will be responsible for creating more awareness within the<br />

<strong>Association</strong> members and public about what companies can be doing to minimize environmental damage.


This committee also administers the Built Green Program. The committee reports to TAC and, as such, its<br />

Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Environmental Committee Representative.<br />

Human Resources Committee<br />

The Human Resources Committee will exist to advise on HR best practices in the home building industry,<br />

education and skill upgrades/needs, labour market forecasting, labour attraction and retention and career<br />

development. Committee meetings will also be used as an open forum to discuss any issues or concerns.<br />

This committee will also administer the Alberta Builder Connect Program. This committee reports to<br />

TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Human Resource Committee representative.<br />

Security Committee<br />

The Security Committee will consist of a group of members working towards building programs to<br />

reduce the impact of theft and vandalism on the job sites. This Committee also administers the Hands-Off<br />

Program. This committee reports to TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Security<br />

Committee representative.<br />

General Committee<br />

The General Committee will be comprised of CHBA-ER General members. This committee will act as a<br />

forum to discuss any issues in the industry that are impacting the sales and productions of companies, as<br />

well as act as a mentorship group towards one another to help improve the industry. This committee<br />

reports to TAC and, as such, its Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the General Committee representative.<br />

Sales Committee<br />

The Sales Committee will comprise of the sales staff within the CHBA-ER member companies. This<br />

committee will act as a forum to discuss any issues in the industry that are impacting sales volumes. As<br />

well as act as a support group and mentor each other to better themselves and the industry. This<br />

Committee also administers the Builder/Realtor Program. This committee reports to TAC and, as such, its<br />

Chair/Vice Chair, will sit as the Sales Committee representative.<br />

Education Committee<br />

The role of the Education Committee is to ensure the development , provision, and promotion of a<br />

continuing education program for the members. To do this the Committee will:


• Coordinate its efforts with PHBIA;<br />

• Where necessary, initiating programming directly;<br />

• Encore members to become certified<br />

• In concert with the Member Services Manager, develop sponsorship opportunities;<br />

• Develop and monitor an annual budget<br />

This committee reports to the Executive Officer.<br />

Dinner Meeting Committee<br />

The role of the Dinner Meeting Committee is to develop and deliver a program of presentations and<br />

events that provide informative and entertaining networking opportunities for members. To do this the<br />

Committee will:<br />

• Create a Syllabus of entertaining and informative presentations;<br />

• Select venues that are suitable for these presentations;<br />

• In concert with the member Services Manager, developing sponsorship opportunities<br />

• Develop and monitor an annual budget<br />

This Committee reports to the Executive Officer.<br />

Breakfast Meeting Committee<br />

The role of the Breakfast Meeting Committee is to develop and deliver a program of presentations to the<br />

membership on technical matters relevant to the industry. To do this the Committee will:<br />

• Coordinate its efforts with PHBIA in the recruitment of speakers;<br />

• Solicit relevant industry speakers;<br />

• Select venues that are suitable for these presentations;<br />

• In concert with the Member Services Manager, develop sponsorship opportunities


• Develop and monitor an annual budget<br />

This Committee reports to the Executive Officer.<br />

Luncheon Committee<br />

The role of the Luncheon Committee is to develop and deliver a program of presentations to the<br />

membership on business matters relevant to the industry. To do this the Committee will:<br />

• Coordinate its efforts with PHBIA in the recruitment of speakers;<br />

• Solicit relevant industry speakers;<br />

• Select venues that are suitable for these presentations;<br />

• In concert with the Member Service Manager, develop sponsorship opportunities<br />

• Develop and monitor an annual budget<br />

Awards of Excellence Committee<br />

Chair: Steve Ruggiero, Kimberley <strong>Home</strong>s<br />

The role of the Awards of Excellence Committee is to develop and deliver an awards program<br />

recognizing excellence in all aspects of the home building and renovation industry. To do this the<br />

Committee will:<br />

• Develop and implement an effective and transparent judging process;<br />

• Develop and deliver a gala event for the industry to present awards to those nominated in the<br />

judging process.<br />

This Committee reports to the Executive Officer<br />

Outreach Committee


The role of the Outreach Committee is to coordinate the CHBA-ER’s support of the philanthropic<br />

activities of the <strong>Edmonton</strong> <strong>Region</strong> <strong>Home</strong>builder Charity Funds (ERHC). In support of non-profit housing,<br />

trade scholarships, and such other community activities as are deemed appropriate to the ERHC’s stated<br />

goals and objectives. This committee will coordinate its efforts with the Member Services Manager. This<br />

committee reports to the Executive Officer.<br />

2010 Golf Committee<br />

Chair: Gil Girard, Barcol Doors & Windows<br />

The role of the Golf Committee is to provide a relaxing, enjoyable social event that futhers networking<br />

opportunities for the membership. To do this the Committee will:<br />

• Determine golf date & location of tournament.<br />

• Determine AM/PM event, or both<br />

• Coordinate sponsorship and donation opportunities and recognition with the Member Services<br />

Manager.<br />

The role of the Slo-Pitch Committee is to provide a relaxing, enjoyable social event that furthers<br />

• Book softball diamonds<br />

• Develop and monitor an annual budget<br />

• Determine teams & playing schedules<br />

• Purchase supplies for tournament such as balls etc<br />

• Coordinate sponsorship & donation opportunities and recognition with the Member Services<br />

CHBA-ER Convention Committee<br />

Chair: Nick Iozzo<br />

The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver a technical convention that provides professional<br />

development, education, and networking for the industry, while generating a significant profit. This<br />

committee will directly be involved in the planning and execution of future Technical Conventions. The<br />

2-3 day event will be directly tailored to the <strong>Home</strong> Building industry with concurrent industry based<br />

sessions, keynote speakers, education courses, a tradeshow, and many networking and social<br />

opportunities.<br />

The Technical Convention Committee reports to the Executive Officer.<br />

CHBA-ER Convention Sub-Committees:<br />

Technical: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver the concurrent, plenary, educational, and<br />

poster programs.<br />

Social: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver the social and networking opportunities,<br />

including luncheons, ice-breaker reception, entertainment, and wind-up party.<br />

Special Events: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver unique programs and activities that<br />

further the goals of the event.<br />

Tradeshow: The role of this Committee is to develop and deliver a technical trade show, enabling<br />

General Members to showcase their products in an industry-specific environment to their current and<br />

prospective clients.


Government Relations Committee<br />

Chair: Sandra Young, CHBA-ER President<br />

The role of this committee is to proactively represent the interests of the home building industry in the<br />

Capital <strong>Region</strong> to government. On matters of a provincial or national nature, the Government Relations<br />

Committee will coordinate through its provincial and national counterparts within the CHBA. Volunteers<br />

on this committee assist in developing and maintaining relationships with political and administrative<br />

representatives within jurisdictions of the Capital <strong>Region</strong>. They monitor and, with input from appropriate<br />

committees within the CHBA-ER, initiate plans, policies and interpretations presented by and to the<br />

Capital <strong>Region</strong> Municipalities and create appropriate responses to issues identified.<br />

The Government Relations Committee reports to the Board of Directors through the Executive Officer.<br />

Communications Committee:<br />

The role of this Committee is to provide policy and guidance in all matters of CHBA-ER internal and<br />

external communications matters and mediums including, but not limited to, print and electronic<br />

mediums, and marketing (including public and media relations, and industry promotion). All activities of<br />

this Committee and its sub-committees will involve intimate coordination with the Member Services<br />

Manager. This Committee reports to the Executive Officer.<br />

Magazine Committee<br />

Communications Sub-Committees:<br />

CHBA-ER will be launching its very own <strong>Home</strong>builders magazine. This printed, full color, high gloss<br />

industry magazine will serve as a primary promotional tool for the <strong>Association</strong>. From developing themes<br />

and organizing content, to organizing layouts, the CHBA-ER will be reliant on volunteer support to help<br />

get the job done. This will be profit centre and, as such will rely heavily on maintaining at least 50%<br />

advertising ratio, achieved in concert with the Member Services Manager.<br />

The Magazine Committee reports to the Communications Committee.<br />

Website Committee<br />

Providing members and the public with current, interactive and user-friendly website is one of our top<br />

priorities. Although the updated site is set to launch later this month, volunteer members will be required<br />

to ensure its maintained relevance and functionality, develop an effective Search Engine Optimization<br />

strategy, and more.<br />

The Website Committee reports to the Communications Committee.<br />

E-Newsletter Committee<br />

The role of this Committee is to provide temporary coverage of direct communication with members on<br />

matters of a time-sensitive or urgent nature until such time as the website is able to effectively assume this<br />

function.<br />

This Committee reports to the Executive Officer through the Communications Committee.


Marketing Committee<br />

The role of this Committee is to coordinate the marketing activities of the CHBA-ER on behalf of both<br />

the <strong>Association</strong> and in support of the industry, including but not limited to the Public Relations, Media<br />

Relations, and promotional activities and programs. This Committee reports to the Communications<br />

Committee.<br />

Public Relations Committee<br />

The Public Relations Committee serves to promote the association and its members as ‘experts in the<br />

field of residential construction’. The committee will be responsible for developing marketing and<br />

branding strategies for the association, with the goal of increasing public awareness of the CHBA-ER and<br />

the home building and renovation industry while enhancing the reputation of homebuilders throughout the<br />

<strong>Edmonton</strong> region. This Committee also administers the Get It In Writing Program.<br />

The Public Relations Committee reports to the Communications Committee.<br />

Media Relations Committee<br />

The Media Relations Committee will develop and implement an effective media relations strategy for the<br />

<strong>Association</strong>. Members will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with local<br />

media, developing key messages, and coordinating timely and relevant articles and interviews on behalf<br />

of the CHBA-ER.<br />

The Media Relations Committee reports to the Communications Committee.


Volunteer Management Committee<br />

The CHBA-ER Volunteer Management Committee serves to promote the <strong>Association</strong> and its goal to be<br />

‘member driven’. This committee will be broken up into three sub-committees to better serve our<br />

volunteer members:<br />

The Recruiting Committee:<br />

• Responsible for recruiting volunteer members for our existing and new committees being<br />

introduced. Methods of recruiting will be determined by the Chair and support team of this<br />

committee.<br />

The Orientation/Training Committee:<br />

• Assist the Volunteer Manager with organizing Volunteer Orientation events for interested<br />

members.<br />

• Assist the Volunteer Manager and committee chair in training the volunteer members so that they<br />

can be as effective as possible in their roles within their chosen committees.<br />

Monitoring/ Volunteer Recognition Committee:<br />

• Assist the Volunteer Manager with monitoring volunteer members; which committee our<br />

members volunteer on, are the members satisfied with their experience as a volunteer, meetings<br />

missed/attended, hours/years volunteered etc.<br />

• Assist the Volunteer Manager with developing and implementing a Volunteer Recognition<br />

Program.<br />

The Volunteer Management Committee reports to the Executive Officer.
