Inspiration For
the New Year:
Twenty years from
now you will be more
disappointed by the
things that you
didn’t do than by
the ones you did do.
So throw off the
bowlines. Sail away
from the safe
harbor. Catch the
trade winds in your
sails.
Explore. Dream.
Discover.
Extended Absences and Missed School
Many parents are concerned when their child misses school due to family vacations.
It is the expectation of NSCHS that students will attend school on
scheduled school days and take holidays according to the school year calendar.
Many of the classroom activities that students are engaged in on a
regular basis involve discussion or group activities that are hard to replicate
for homework. In the event that parents choose to take their child/
children out of school at times other than school holidays, teachers will
provide general guidelines for students that deal with the topic under study;
however, it is not possible to provide detailed homework assignments to adequately
cover work missed in class.
If a student is absent for a large project or an exam, the student will be
responsible for completing the project or exam upon his or her return to
school.
As we know, the opportunity to spend time with family is invaluable and is
certainly something we should all strive for; however, it would be best for
all students if trips could be booked during our regular school breaks.
SCHOOL NEWS &
INFORMATION
NSCHS is looking for SPON-
SORS for the upcoming TAZ Basketball
Tournament on February
22nd and 23rd, 2013. This is going
to become an annual tournament.
So, if you are looking for a place to
expand your advertising then this
may be the place to promote your
business! Please contact Tim
Schultz for more information @
780-941-3924.
Do you have a child that attends
NSCHS? Are you planning
on volunteering your
time for school trips and overnight
events ? (i.e. 30 Hour Famine)
If so, please remember that
you need to have a current (within
the last year) Criminal Record
Check and Child Welfare Check
completed. It can take several
weeks to have this done, so please
remember to apply A.S.A.P. Thank
you!
Dear Parents, Students and Public
Please continue to bring in used ink cartridges, laser cartridges, digital cameras, laptops, tablets and cell phones from the community and
return them to the high school. As a result NSCHS will earn funds for each qualifying cartridge, camera, etc returned.
Through partnerships with Tree Canada and American Forests, Think Recycle will sponsor the planting of one tree for every 24 rebated
cartridges, cameras, etc, collected. We request your support in ensuring the success of this cost‐free fundraising program.
Your place of employment can also support NSCHS by saving these items and having your child/you return them to the high school.
Your support of the Think Recycle program will help teach the students and our community the importance of recycling, the benefits of
tree planting and help raise funds for our library and classrooms.
Student’s Corner by Kagen Newman
As 2012 ends (completely “apocalypse”-less) a new year begins, and with every new year
comes new opportunities and with new opportunities come... new movies!!! 2013 is a
year not just for the usual block busters, but a year for sequels. Here are just a few of
them that might be worth a trip to the theatre for.
1. May 3rd, 2013- Iron Man 3. The third movie depicting Tony Starks’ adventure (fourth counting Avengers) since 2008. Sure to be
an exciting movie where Tony Stark triumphs over evil at the last possible moment, whilst the audience wonders where Thor is
because he probably could have done it in 5 minutes flat!
2. June 14th, 2013- Man of Steel. Not a traditional sequel (or in fact a sequel at all) but it's not exactly the first time Superman's epic
tale has been told.
3. July 3rd, 2013- Despicable Me 2- The sequel to an adorable movie where an evil scientist adopts 3 small girls, creating the perfect
mix of world domination and pink unicorns. Fun for the whole family!
4. November 22, 2013- The Hunger Games: Catching Fire- A movie readers everywhere are looking forward to. Sure to be dramatic,
awesome and hold at least a few surprises (even for those who did read the book), but probably unable to measure up to the book.
5. December 13, 2013- The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug- Another novel adaptation, of a slightly older (but equally awesome)
story. JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit was split up into three movies (this being the second) which gives the audience three times as much
screen time to enjoy!
Dear NSCHS Parent,
Last year the Mites, Squirts and Pee Wee fastball
teams from Leduc,
Beaumont, Camrose and Wetaskiwin played against each other in
an exhibition
league. The purpose of this league was to give the kids an opportunity
to play
fastball against other teams and to prepare them for tournaments.
It was a great success and it is something that we want
to continue in the 2013 season.
We are getting things ready for next season by inviting other
communities in the area to put together a team or teams, to
join us in our league. We are hoping that when word of this
league gets out, people will step forward and organize a team
from their area.
If you are interested in putting together a fastball team or
teams and join our league you can contact me at leducsoftball@gmail.com
