FCSS NEW SAREPTA
1.Parent Link Stay’n’Play and More:
Stay’n’Play is held Wednesday mornings, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. @ the New Sarepta Community Services Building.
This registered Stay’n’Play program has an unstructured free play component at the beginning of the morning
followed by a 30-45 minute structured activity/circle time. Themes may include music, messy art time, sensory

2. Leduc County FCSS is seeking people who are interested in providing yard work assistance for seniors and adults
with disabilities. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Sara Russell, Senior Services

3. Volunteer Income Tax Program – New Sarepta FCSS will complete 2011 Income Tax Returns for low-income individuals
who have a simple tax situation and are living within rural Leduc County or the municipality of New
Sarepta. Please contact Lucille at (780) 941-2382 to make an appointment to have your 2011 Income Tax Return
completed free of charge. Please Note: we are not able to complete complicated returns, returns for the
deceased, or those with business, farming or rental income.
4. Volunteer Appreciation – New Sarepta and area volunteers are invited to drop by the FCSS Office on Thursday,
April 19, 2012 (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) for coffee and cake.
5. The New Sarepta FCSS Office is hosting a Babysitting Course – Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, 2012
(Please note the new date). Registration forms are now available at New Sarepta Elementary School or the
New Sarepta FCSS Office.
6. The COW Bus is coming to New Sarepta! When? Monday, June 25, 2012 (10:00 a.m. – noon and 1:00-3:00
p.m.). Where? New Sarepta Community Services Building (Parking Lot beside the former Village Office).
This “Holstein on Wheels” is a friendly space for parents and young children, 0-6 years, to learn and explore
fun new ways to add literacy activities into their daily lives. Along with the COW Bus, Parent Link
will be on hand, Leduc County Parks and Recreation will provide face painting and fun, a representative for
Child Find will be on site, the New Sarepta Fire Department will be attending and Cst. Joel Mackown and
his RCMP dog “Bolt” will have an obedience demonstration at 11:00 a.m.
7. New Sarepta FCSS, New Sarepta Playschool, New Sarepta Public Library, Zion Evangelical Church, St. John’s
Lutheran Church and Leduc County Parks and Recreation will be hosting the 2 nd Annual Women’s Day on October
13, 2012 – more information to come!

Silent Auction Items:
NSCHS BAND NEWS
Thank you to all who have already generously donated items to our Silent Auction. We are asking for each band family to give a
donation for the Silent Auction. Please send in your donation by Wednesday, April 11, so the committee has a chance to catalogue
and itemize the donations. If yours will be coming later, please let Mrs. Farley or Mrs. Arletta O’Neill know. Call Mrs Arletta
O’Neill (941-2218) if you wish to help with cataloguing, display, and selling/dispersal of items on the day of the show.
Tickets:
Please return any Fashion Show tickets ($8.00) door tickets that you will not be using ASAP, as there is a waiting list for the tickets
already. All fashion show tickets need to be in before April 18. The raffle tickets are also to be handed in before April 13, but if
you know you are finished selling them, please return them, so we can distribute them to those who want more. A reminder that
cheques need to be written to New Sarepta Parent Band Association.
Volunteers:
Thank you to all who have volunteered for the many duties associated with this event. A list will be sent home with band students to
confirm volunteer positions. We still need some more volunteers in the following areas:
Supervisors for Fitting Day (WEM), April 16
Supervisors and Drivers for Fittings not at WEM
Set-up and Take-down
Please contact Mrs. Farley if you can help out in any of these areas.
Stores and Fittings
This year a number of the stores are at West Edmonton Mall, but we have had to go outside of West Edmonton Mall to have enough
stores for the show. As a result, we have stores in Leduc and Beaumont. The fittings for the stores outside WEM, will be arranged
individually. We will need parent drivers and supervisors for these locations. On Monday, April 16, we will be taking the bus to
WEM for fittings for stores at WEM. Students need to have their permission forms returned by April 12 to travel to WEM.
.Food:
Please send in refreshments (cookies, cupcakes, muffins and other sweets) during the day of
April 18. Please don’t bring it with you in the evening, as we need to get the trays ready prior to the show.

We are still in need of donations for this year’s Silent Auction and Fashion show. Please forward all donations

There are still some volunteer positions available so if you are able to help, please get a hold of us as soon as
possible. It is so important that this be a success. The funds from this event help to offset the costs of both
the junior high band trip as well as to bring the cost per student down on the senior high band trip. With your
help this will be the most successful Fashion show/silent auction to date. Thank you in advance for everything
that you do to make our program what it is.

STUDENT RECOGNITION
Black Gold Regional Schools Celebration of the Arts Week
March 19-23, 2012
Our students participated in two events during the Celebration of the Arts week. The Grade 8-9 Band performed at
the Maclab Theatre in Leduc on Wednesday, March 21 while the Sr.Band performed at the Winspear Centre in Edmonton
on the following day, Thursday, March 22. Both groups had excellent performances. As part of the Winspear
concert, the Sr. Band also performed two pieces with École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School.
The Winspear concert finished with a finale of 2 pieces that included band and choir students from the four participating
high schools: NSCHS, John Maland HS, Leduc Composite HS, and ÉSBCHS.
It was great experience for our students and we are very proud of their accomplishments.
NSCHS School Council Update
School council and the Parent Advisory Association held our monthly meeting on April 2nd @ 7:00 p.m. in the High School staff
room. Thank you to everyone who attended. Some of the items discussed were:
-Regal Fundraiser—This is a year round fundraiser with our organization earning 30% - 35% profit depending on overall sales.
There are 6 catalogues per year for your shopping convenience, when one finishes Regal will tally the amount sold and send us a
cheque with our profits. The website address is www.nschs.shopregal.ca
-The China trip—there are 12 confirmed children signed up for this a trip so it is a go. Everyone is looking forward to this new adventure.
- Our Archery team was very successful at The Provincial championships at the Edmonton Boat and Sportsman show. We had one
grade nine student finish 2nd overall in her age category. Way to go to all our competitors!
- The Celebration of the Arts week was a HUGE SUCCESS. I attended the performance at the Winspear Center and WOW it was
amazing. I would like to thank all that were involved with making this, such a magical evening. We really were a part of something
truly amazing.
- The Junior High Ski Trip has been cancelled due to low student registration.
- Teacher Supper—I am organizing the Teachers supper which is held just before the parent teacher interviews on April 19th. I need
people to volunteer to bring in food dishes for this meal. I will be making Pulled Pork as a meat dish. I have one appetizer, one dessert,
veggie plate and buns which have been donated already. I am in need of 2 salads, another appetizer, at least one more dessert, a
fruit platter and a rice dish. If you can help me by donating a food item listed here please give me a call. The teachers appreciate
this meal so much.
-Political Forum—April 11th is the Political Forum at the school. Contact the school for further details.
-Cookie Dough—There are still several tubs of Cookie Dough available for sale at the school. We really need to clear this out before
the end of the year. If you are interested either contact me or the school. This cookie dough has been kept frozen so it is fresh. If
this cookie dough is not sold it will eat into our profit from this fundraiser as they have been already paid for.
Our next council meeting will be held on May 7th @ 7:00 pm. I hope to see you there.

a Regal Fundraiser. This will be a year round fundraising campaign; it
includes 6 catalogues which run for 2 months each. We will send a notification every couple of
months reminding you when the catalogues change.
Regal offers more than 1000 products with hundreds of items being priced at $20.00 or less. We are
sure everyone can find something either for themselves or as a gift for family and friends.

Summer School 2012
The time is almost here to register for the upcoming summer school session.
Summer School Information and Registration Forms will be available to view and print
off at the Black Gold website at the end of April. The website is www.blackgold.ab.ca
First day of registrations begin on Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Summer School Office.
It is a first come, first served basis. So if you need a course, make sure you get here to
register!!
The Pampered Chef
April is the month for Bamboo. Hosts can pick from one to
two items for 60% off. There are over 10 items to choose from. Book a party
with me in the month of April and receive a free cooking show and ask me how
you can earn not only FREE product but also how you can order the entire
cookware sets for 50% off. Every host who books a Pampered Chef cooking

Every year, hundreds of thousands of students do the 30 Hour Famine, to help children and communities in
need around the world. This year, students at New Sarepta Community High School are once again taking
part in the Famine.
From May 3rd at 8:30 am until 2:30 pm on May 4th, students will take part in activities and sleep over at
NSCHS. Participants will go 30 Hours without food. For most people, going without food for 30 hours is perfectly
safe. There are a few exceptions - like kids under 12, the elderly, pregnant or nursing women, and people
with certain medical conditions or eating disorders. The Famine is a juice fast, meaning students can have
plenty of water and juice throughout the 30 hours.
There are lots of ways students can fundraise. Some choose to talk directly to friends, family, and neighbors.
Others make phone calls. Your child may also be invited to participate in a variety of group fundraisers hosted
by their group leader (Miss Sheppard).
The money you raise has an incredible impact — helping to overcome hunger and poverty around the world!
Every $30 raised can help feed and care for a child for a month. World Vision offers hope and assistance to
children and families in nearly 100 countries; providing emergency aid when disaster strikes; partnering with
communities to overcome poverty; raising our voices on behalf of and alongside the poor.
We need volunteers to run this event. Please consider donating money and/or volunteer your time to help the
cause.
