SCHOOL NEWS & INFORMATION NSCHS is looking for SPON- SORS for the upcoming TAZ Basketball Tournament on February 22nd and 23rd, 2013. This is going to become an annual tournament. Do you have a child that attends NSCHS? Are you planning on volunteering your time for school trips and overnight events ? (i.e. 30 Hour Famine) If so, please remember that you need to have a current (within the last year) Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check completed. It can take several weeks to have this done, so please remember to apply A.S.A.P. Thank you! Dear Parents, Students and Public Please continue to bring in used ink cartridges, laser cartridges, digital cameras, laptops, tablets and cell phones from the community and return them to the high school. As a result NSCHS will earn funds for each qualifying cartridge, camera, etc returned. Through partnerships with Tree Canada and American Forests, Think Recycle will sponsor the planting of one tree for every 24 rebated cartridges, cameras, etc, collected. We request your support in ensuring the success of this cost‐free fundraising program. Your place of employment can also support NSCHS by saving these items and having your child/you return them to the high school. Your support of the Think Recycle program will help teach the students and our community the importance of recycling, the benefits of tree planting and help raise funds for our library and classrooms. Nominations are now open for the 2013 Excellence in Teaching Awards, which are celebrating their 25 th anniversary in May 2013. Sponsored by Alberta Education, the Excellence in Teaching Awards recognize the innovative and outstanding teaching taking place in classrooms across Alberta every day. Each year, the program honours approximately 20 teachers with Provincial Excellence in Teaching Awards and three teachers with SMART Technologies Innovative Use of Technology Awards. The program has recognized more than 500 deserving teachers and principals from nearly 9,000 eligible nominees since its inception in 1989. The Tire & Girdle Express BAND NEWS & INFORMATION PARENT BAND ASSOCIATION There will be an important Parent Band Association meeting on Tuesday, January 15 at 7:00 pm in the bandroom. This meeting will be regarding the planning of the Fashion Show and Silent Auction, which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17. Please contact Mrs. Catherine Farley at 780- 941-3924, or Mrs. Arletta O’Neill, if you have any suggestions or questions. An information package will be sent home this month regarding the Fashion Show and Silent Auction. This package will include an update on the Fashion Show and Silent Auction, photo information, raffle information and a volunteer form that needs to be returned to the school. Thank you to all the families who supported the QSP magazine fundraiser. This fundraiser wrapped up before the Christmas break and we should be able have the profit results by the next newsletter. (Any late orders that come in during the New Year will be sent in as soon as they are received). The profit from the SUTP coupon book fundraiser was $845.50. With 2013 now here, there are many projects on board for the band program in this New Year: the annual Fashion Show and Silent Auction, Leduc music festival, Band 8/9 Camp, Sr. Band Tour, and other concerts and performances. It is a busy yet exciting time! Grad News & Information Important upcoming dates: Grad pictures: January 31 st , 2013. You will be able to book appointments on-line. This is the same process as was used for Parent/Teacher Interviews. The Grad’s received an instructional handout for the on-line booking today (January 11). Grad picture retakes: March 1 st, 2013 Pictures submitted for grad slide show: March 8 th, 2013 Ticket purchase: April 15 th , 2013 Last date to buy your original 10 tickets: May 6 th, 2013 Purchase extra tickets: May 10 th, 2013 Last date to buy tickets: May 21 st, 2013 Tickets will be distributed to the students at the beginning of June.
