We certainly did not attend lectures on the
weekends and had Wednesday afternoon free. I seem
to recall that Friday afternoons were often free;
perhaps to recover from the lunch time speeches. We
Canadians had all spent some naval time where we
had become acquainted with our own logistic
practices. Davis and Lambie had spent two years as
Midshipmen in Supply departments, recently in
MAGNIFICENT. We three ex UNTDs had undergone
a Supply course at our own Supply School in the
summer of 1947. Margetts and I had worked the
Captain‘s and Pay offices in HMCS IROQUOIS in
1948 and I had spent two months in Pay in HMCS

MAGNIFICENT in the same summer. I had also been
Gunner‘s Party in the frigate CHARLOTTETOWN
and the destroyer CRESCENT. So we recognized that
the content of NSCS, although mind broadening, was
not going to provide us with correct RCN answers
when we next took up sea duties.

A middle-aged Walmart Greeter was called to the Manager‘s office where his boss said:
You are doing a very good job greeting and directing our customers, Old Timer, and our other staff
members enjoy your friendly personality and the way you work with them. But there’s one problem. You are about
15 minutes late arriving for work every morning.
At your last job, what did they say to you when you arrived late in the morning?
The Greeter replied:
Good morning, Admiral. Would you like your cup of coffee now, sir?
