Anne Frank Trust UK
It’s a year since I had the honour of being
appointed Chairman of the Anne Frank Trust. It is
an organisation that I have been involved with for 11
years, and is a huge opportunity for me to work in an
area that I feel so passionately about.
The outlook for our country rests with the next generation, how
they view each other and themselves in society. I want that future
generation to be able to succeed where past generations have not.
They need to understand not only the negative impact of prejudice
but also the huge personal benefits of taking responsibility, having
hope and courage and the positive difference these can make.
The Anne Frank Trust is a driving force, educating young people
in some of the most deprived and divided communities in the UK.
Our aim is to eradicate prejudice and discrimination, providing
young people with the knowledge and skills to build a firm
foundation for their lives ahead.
Unfortunately, the need for the Trust’s work is ever present. The Crown
Prosecution Service reports that in the last 12 months, the number of
racist and religiously aggravated crimes accounted for 80% of the
total of hate crimes prosecuted.
With your generosity the Trust can continue to develop and
improve its education programmes, working in new areas
and reaching even more young people. All the thinking and
talking in the world, is meaningless without action. By being
here today and supporting our work you are taking action.
I would like to thank you and assure you that we will continue
to strive to create the sort of society we would all be proud of.
