Okiivik I<br />
<strong>The</strong>re are five bifacially retouched fragments wbose previous<br />
form or functi<strong>on</strong> can <strong>on</strong>ly be guessed, Two are po<strong>in</strong>t tips from<br />
end blades; <strong>on</strong>e might be from a large, thick knife blade. <strong>The</strong>y<br />
are of quartz crystal, amorphous quartz, and guartzite'<br />
Ten small soapst<strong>on</strong>e vessel fragments, rang<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> thicknese<br />
from 3 to l0 mm., suggest th<strong>in</strong> rounded soapetoae vessels.<br />
Two are rirn fragments show<strong>in</strong>g rounded rim profiles.<br />
I. Chipped end blades<br />
(a) Four triangular end blades <strong>in</strong>clude two of quartz and two of<br />
quartzite. Two show c<strong>on</strong>cave and two have straight bases.<br />
<strong>The</strong> s<strong>in</strong>gle <strong>in</strong>tact specimen is uniface and measures 4.3 by<br />
1.6 by 0. ? cm. <strong>The</strong> other tlrree are bic<strong>on</strong>vex <strong>in</strong> crose-E€cti<strong>on</strong>i<br />
marg<strong>in</strong>s are generally c<strong>on</strong>vex to straight, A11 four show basal<br />
.tJr<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
(b) Two of the three sidenotched po<strong>in</strong>ts are <strong>in</strong>tact; two are quartzitet<br />
tlre other is chert. Bases are approximately straight; sidenotchea<br />
are broad and shallow; edges are otherwise gently c<strong>on</strong>vex. <strong>The</strong><br />
two <strong>in</strong>tact specimens measure 3.9 by 2.2 by 0.7 crn. and 2.5 by<br />
lrB by 0'4r.\snrr f€spectively.<br />
2. Ground stoae<br />
(a) Three of the five ground slate pieces are small grey n<strong>on</strong>descript<br />
fragments of ground slate end blades. <strong>The</strong> fourth, a thick grey<br />
piece, shows gr<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g aad chipp<strong>in</strong>g. <strong>The</strong> fifth, red <strong>in</strong> colourr ie<br />
an ead blade base witb three pairs of preciser sawed notches <strong>on</strong><br />
its bevelled edges. Its m<strong>in</strong>imum width, at the straight baser ie<br />
