Join women from all over Pennsylvania for a weekend of adventurous outdoor activities, laughter, smiles and good times! PENNSYLVANIA STATE CHAPTER’S WOMEN IN THE OUTDOORS The NWTF is dedicated to providing interactive educational outdoor opportunities for women ages 14 and older. Classes to choose from! ARCHERY Learn about this fast growing sport. Do you want to learn backyard recreation, competitive target shooting, or maybe you want to go bow hunting? You will learn how to select equipment that fi ts you and there will be lots of hands-on instruction. SOAP CRAFTING Also known as “melt & pour soap making”. In this hands-on class you will learn 3 popular techniques. We will start with a pre-made glycerin soap that you will melt, add and mix scent, ground oatmeal, and powdered goat’s milk. We will discuss interesting things you can put into your soap, and fi nally you will see how to package your works of art to impress. All students will take home handouts and 2 bars of soap. SHOTGUNNING You will become familiar with differnt types of shotguns, ammunition and proper gun fi tting. Time will be spent at the range where you will shoot clay birds. OUTDOOR SURVIVAL Gain the knowledge, skill and attitude that surviving an outdoor emergency requires. This course will deal with the mental things you need to know about survival, as well as the physical aspects: food, water and shelter. PISTOLS/.22 RIFLES Participants will learn proper handling of .22 rifl es and pistols, shooting positions, and basic shooting techniques. there will be lots of practice time. FISHING Develope basic skills needed to catch fi sh: casting, knot tying, lure selection, fi sh identifi cation, fi shing locations and equipment choice and use. CHILDREN & THE OUTDOORS Take a nature hike and learn fun ways to introduce your children to the outdoors. SELF PROTECTION If you travel alone, make those late night trips to the grocery store, or are just interested in basic self protection tips, this class is for you. Come and learn basic moves that every woman should know. OUTDOOR COOKING Food always tastes better when it’s cooked outside. Don’t go hungry in the outdoors! This class covers methods, equipment and recipes for delightful tummies. GEOCACHING Geocaching is a Hi-Tech treasure hunt developed in 2000 that has become the fastest growing sport in the world. Geocachers hunt for treasures that have been hidden by other cachers and challenged to fi nd them. This class will explain the history of the GPS, Geocaching and how the game is played. Then we will go on a hunt or two. HUNTING WITH DOGS This class will consist of training a hunting breed, from basic obedience and training fi eld commands. TRAPPING/FURBEARERS Learn about the furbeareres of Pennsylvania. This class will include identifi cation, humane trapping standards and devices and equipment placement. OUTDOOR FIRST AID This course is hands-on, providing you with the skills and confi dence needed for making medical care decisions for those who spend time outdoors. Preparedness, stressing the “buddy system”, fracture stabilization, bandaging, recognizing serious injury/illness, animal bites will be covered. Evening Activities - Join in on the fun each evening as we socialize and explore great activities. What could be more perfect for a St. Patrick’s weekend celebration tion than green food? Tickle our taste buds and bring in your favorite green food or Irish dish for Friday evening. Winner gets $100 in Raffl e Money to spend at the event! Drive away all your negative energy....create your own prayer or smudge feather made out of genuine turkey and goose feathers in this optional class. Pre registration is required. REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS MARCH 8 Space is Limited! EMERGENCY BRACELET In this class you will learn how to make a Paracord Survival Bracelet. In an emergency, you can use paracord for lashings, tourniquets, shoelaces, snares, tying splints, or, if you tease out the threads, even fi shing lines and sewing threads. This bracelet lets you carry a useful amount at all times. NRA REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM Improve your personal safety strategies with NRA’s Refuse To Be A Victim ® Program. Experts agree that the single most important step toward ensuring your personal safety is making the decision to refuse to be a victim. That means that you must have an overall personal safety strategy in place before you need it. This course will teach you a variety of personal safety tips and techniques you need to improve your safety and security, avoid dangerous situations and avoid becoming a victim. WALL CLIMBING Are you up for a new challenge? The climbing wall will provide a wealth of opportunities to have fun while enhancing self-esteem and confi dence. It involves adventure, risk-taking and attempting the unusual, while encouraging participants to test their limits. You don’t have to be the ourdoorsy-type to enjoy Women in the Outdoors, just get out there and try something new! SUNDAY FEATURED PRESENTATION for ALL: NWTF AND OUR MISSION In this short introduction you will learn that NWTF volunteers come from all walks of life to engage in conservation and preserve the hunting heritage we all hold dear. LETS TALK TURKEY You ‘ll have an opportunity to learn about wild turkey and its habits. Learn calling techniques, equipment, camoufl age and set-up techniques to improve your chances of seeing, photographing and bagging one of these magnifi cent birds. CANCELLATION POLICY: The cancellation deadline is March 1, 2013 If you cancel after March 1st, you will be responsible for your program fee. No refunds. You may send a substitute if you cannot attend. Organizing the WITO event takes place months in advance and every effort is made to offer all scheduled classes. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, instructors, topics and schedules may change. In the event of an unforeseen class cancellation, participants will be offered an alternative class.
