Dear NWTF Members, Summer is just a memory now and as I write this article I am counting the days till my annual archery hunt in Kansas. November is rapidly approaching and we will soon be back in the woods pursuing the wild turkey. Please hunt safely and positively identify your target. I wish you all a safe and successful fall hunting season. The New Year is coming up fast and the PA State Chapter is looking to fill a few vacant Board of Director positions. Normally its local chapter committee members that step up to the state level. However that is not a requirement to become a State Board Member. There are a few steps that need to be followed in order to be elected to the state board. First you will need a letter of nomination from another member of your local chapter as well as a resume which outlines your background, qualifications and contributions to the NWTF. You will also need a minimum of fifteen signatures from NWTF chapter members with your nomination letter. The current board will review and vote on all applicants and notify everyone who has applied with their decisions. The requirements as a PA NWTF Board of Director are as follows. All directors are required to attend at least three of the five scheduled meetings in a calendar year. You will be expected to serve on and be active in several committees within the State Chapter. We try to place each director on committees of their personal interest and expertise. Directors perform many different tasks within the state board. Things such as: reviewing all the habitat requests from every chapter across the state, organizing the Conservation seed program, handling the scheduling and distribution of the dart systems and the new Jakes take aim trailer. We deal with many legislative issues; attend 10 11 12 13 14 18 20 Pa Game Commission and DCNR meetings and give our input and recommendations. A committee sets budgets for Hunting heritage, safety & education and superfund. This publication is all done within a committee of directors on the state board. Turkey management present and future is a priority of the state board as well. This is just a small list of the many functions the state board of directors performs. It's very important that all director positions are filled in order to properly function and address all the issues and tasks that need to be dealt with on a regular basis. If stepping up and getting involved at the next level interests you, I encourage you to apply to become a Board of Director or at least come and sit in on a board meeting and see firsthand what the State Board does for all the local chapters in Pennsylvania. I would like to thank all the local chapters and volunteers for their time and dedication to the wild turkey resource. I would like to also thank all the members of Pennsylvania for their continued support of the NWTF.
