Creek and Wilson Moore Chapters
teamed up on a special JAKES event held
at the Meshoppen Road and Gun Club.
The Sullivan County High School
Shooting Teams received funding through
this Chesapeake grant for the third year
in a row. The 2012 grant aided with the
purchase of targets and ammunition
for the Olympic Bunker Trap Shooting
Team. The team used the supplies to
practice in order to qualify for a National
Competition in Colorado Springs. The
grant also provided supplies the high
school American Trap Shooting Team
for their practice in preparation for the
American Trap Association competition.
Youth shooting activities are important
to the future of shooting sports in the
United States. This grant helped to assure
future opportunities for young people
to learn about our hunting and shooting
traditions by providing funds to support
the summer 4H shotgun and riflery clubs
at the North Mountain Sportsmen’s
Club. This program and those at Sullivan
County High School directly support the
preservation of our hunting and shooting
traditions.
Three conservation projects were
completed using the funding from this
grant. Twenty acres of wildlife openings
and food plots on State Game Lands
035 and 175 were treated with lime
and fertilizer to improve the quality of
planted vegetation in cooperation with
the Wilson Moore Chapter. Fifty acres of
habitat enhancements were completed
on State Game Lands 219 in cooperation
with the Endless Mountain Chapter.
A third project affecting two and a
half acres on State Game Lands 57 was
accomplished by the Red Rock Chapter.
In total the grant paid the freight for more
than seventy acres of wildlife habitat
improvements.
Partnering with the energy industry
gives our chapter the chance to grow its
programs. Several of the energy companies
working in the Commonwealth have
shown genuine interest in conservation.
Chesapeake Energy is one of those
companies. The generous donations given
to our chapter by Chesapeake over the
past three years are deeply appreciated.
The Pennsylvania State Chapter members
have worked hard and long on fundraising.
Our volunteers have done a
wonderful job of developing funding for
conservation projects. Our corporate
partners help us to increase our footprint.
