REGENCY DESK
During the 18th century, letter writing was not simply a mode of communication. It was an art. Paper, pens, sealing wax and tables especially for the purpose of
writing were all symbols of class. While computers have replaced pen and paper, and email has usurped the conventional letter, wit and wisdom are still prized
among the literate. A Regency desk makes the transformation to the age of technology with a drop-front center drawer that accommodates a computer keyboard.
NORMANDIE DESK
The Normandie is a reference to the most luxurious transatlantic ocean liner of the 1930s, which bridged French and American Art Deco in a surge of travel first
prompted by Prohibition. Here, the wavy look of a folding screen - in highly figured Bubinga veneers - wraps three sides of the Desk. The top drawers are shallow,
and the center drawer hides a finger pull. Soft close drawers.
While scaled to work in most homes, the Normandie is a legitimate executive desk. The right pedestal houses both a box and a file drawer. The left pedestal has
shelves behind a door. Easily paired with the chests or credenzas from the Bill Sofield Collection - or just as easily used as a stand-alone Modern statement.
CRAWFORD VANITY
This vanity speaks to the juxtaposition of rubbed lacquer and exotic veneer, a glamorous style of modernism in and around the 1940s, much celebrated in the films
of the period. The clean lines, arched kneehole, and tapered legs of the Crawford draw on a neoclassical vocabulary. Gallery top. Seven working drawers, one with a
lock.
While nominally a vanity, the Crawford also lends itself to the role of ladies desk or sofa table. Readily paired with the Tryptych Vanity Mirror, also from Bill
Sofield.
