RANKED IN 2009 as a best adventure town
by National Geographic, Ellicottville is an
1880s-esqe village that is home to 472 people
annually. When winter arrives, however, the
town welcomes 800,000 skiers — and no
wonder. There is an array of winter activities
— from the 58 slopes on 1,400 acres over
four mountain faces at Holiday Valley
(www.holidayvalley.com) to snow tubing
down one of the 12 lanes and then getting
pulled up by one of the two handle tows
to trekking through the 20-plus miles of
pristine double tracked classical trails.
“There’s a little bit of everything in this
village,” says Heather Snyder, Ellicottville media edia
and communications coordinator. “There’s
everything from family restaurants to eclectic
shops to ski shops to night life for adults. This
has always been a second home to me.”
The village offers two different ski resorts
