Colas (IOM) Ltd is the Isle of Man's leading 

private road surface treatment contractor, 

serving both the public and private sectors. 

In addition to laying bitumen macadam and 

surface dressing, with technical support from the 

research laboratories of Colas SA, we can 

provide many proprietary solutions to road 

surfacing problems. 

Our contract plant fleet includes tippers, road 

sweepers and bulk bitumen tankers which are 

available for hire. 

We supply bulk bitumen and bitumen based 

products for use in the civil engineering, 

construction and landscaping industries. 

We stock a range of building products and traffic

Bitumen Macadam 

Colas (IOM) Ltd are the islands' premier 

bitumen macadam contractor. Our 

dedicated team provide advice and 

solutions to your individual 

contracting needs.

and products that best suit your needs. 

Our team is supported by a wide product range 

and a modern fleet of plant and machinery. 

All of our products and services are backed 

up by our stringent quality systems. 

We have the facilities to lay MOT Type 1 

sub-base, basecoat and topcoat materials. 

Colas (IOM) Ltd can also supply coloured 

macadam which is ideal for tennis courts, 

car parks etc. 

We operate to the highest environmental 

standards and have achieved an 

ISO 14001 registration. 

SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) 

SMA is manufactured on the island at Billown 

Lime Quarries Ltd. It provides a deformation 

resistant, durable surface, suitable for heavily 

trafficked roads. SMA is also ideal for confined 

turning areas such as those found on private 

driveways. It has a high coarse aggregate 

content that interlocks to form a stone skeleton 

that resists permanent deformation. The stone 

skeleton is filled with a mastic of bitumen 

and filler to which fibres are added to provide 

adequate stability of bitumen and prevent 

drainage of binder during transport 

and placement.

Surface Dressing 

Surface dressing is an established, proven 

process. It is the most cost-effective 

surface maintenance treatment when 

properly designed, specified and executed. 

Colas (IOM) Ltd has the resources to ensure 

that all work is carried out with safe, reliable 

specialist equipment. We monitor the 

technical quality of materials and their 

application ensuring a long lasting and 

durable road surface. 

We take safety seriously. Our crews are trained 

in safe working procedures and issued with 

full personal protective equipment. 

The process 

Bitumen, in the form of an emulsion, is sprayed 

onto the road surface at an appropriate rate 

from the spray bar at the rear of a large tanker 

containing the bitumen emulsion. 

Chippings of an appropriate size and quality 

are immediately applied to the bitumen by a 

spreader which usually tows behind it a lorry 

containing the chippings. 

The bitumen part of the surface dressing as well 

as securing the chippings to the existing surface 

will seal the old road surface, thus preventing the 

ingress of water. 

The chippings will restore texture to road 

surfaces that have become smooth with 

traffic wear. 

Line marking and paints 

Colas (IOM) Ltd provide a line marking service. 

Our trained personnel can offer various line 

marking solutions to meet your requirements.

Specialist Surfacing 

Antiskid 

While traffic levels have risen over recent 

decades, the use of Spraygrip high friction 

surfacing on the approaches to pedestrian 

crossings, road junctions and other potential 

danger points has contributed to an overall 

reduction in the number of accidents and 

made roads safer to use. Studies have shown 

that through the use of high friction surfacing 

at accident blackspots, total accidents can be 

reduced by 52% and by 67% during wet 

weather conditions. 

Our range of services also includes scheme 

planning, design, drawings, risk assessments and 

method statements. 

We have both the experience and expertise to 

devise appropriate solutions to meet our 

customer's traffic management needs and 

implement the required systems in a safe and

procurement, Colas’ Retread process offers a 

low carbon alternative. By reducing the output 

of energy, emissions and waste, Colas are able 

to aid clients in significantly lowering their 

carbon footprint. 

Vegecol 

Vegecol is an environmentally-friendly plant 

based binder stemming from renewable 

agricultural products. Manufactured as an 

innovative binder with renewable plant based 

raw materials, Vegecol is enabled to remain in 

line with sustainable development by providing 

a sustainable and renewable replacement for 

bitumen. By lowering the temperature at which 

mixes are manufactured Vegecol helps save 

energy, while reducing greenhouse emissions. 

Vegecol requires roughly 40ºC less than 

conventional mixes, which means major 

energy savings. 

Repave 

Repave is a hot in-situ recycling process used 

for the rejuvenation of worn out roads and 

airfield pavements. With 35 years proven 

performance Colas’ Repave process is approved 

for use under the clause 926 of the Specification 

for Highway Works. 

With quantifiable reductions in emissions, waste 

and energy consumption, Colas can significantly 

reduce the carbon footprint of transport 

infrastructure projects. 

Fibredec 


Fibredec is a unique combination of bitumen 

emulsion, chopped glass fibres and aggregate. 

The process is applied through specially 

designed and patented equipment where glass 

fibres are distributed between two layers of 

binder, offering enhanced strength and durability. 

Applicator vehicles have been developed to 

accommodate for both large areas and sites 

with restricted access. In addition to extensive 

engineering benefits Fibredec provides clients 

with a high quality prestigious finish that 

compliments the external environment.

Plant Hire 

Colas (IOM) Ltd operates a wide range of plant 

and machinery all of which are available for hire. 

The modern fleet of tippers is available for the 

haulage of dry aggregates or bitumen macadam 

depending upon your needs. Colas (IOM) Ltd 

can also provide road sweepers and spray 

tankers available at competitive rates and within 

short notification. 

Fleet Maintenance Service 

Colas workshop can provide regular 6 weekly 

inspections, full service and pre MOT checks for 

all goods vehicles with a gross vehicle weight 

exceeding 7500kgs and all carried out to the 

Department of Infrastructure test standards. We 

are also able to provide regular inspections and 

services for smaller vans and pick-ups. Our fully 

experienced fitters will provide an efficient 

service to minimise any inconvenience caused 

whilst giving the customers the after sales 

support required.

To help contractors, utilities and DLOs minimise time spent on reinstatements, Colas has put

Bitucrete 

Bitucrete is a deferred set, storage 

macadam which has been approved by the 

BBA for use as a first time permanent repair 

material in footways; footpaths and cycle 

tracks (certificate 07/H128). It is also ideal 

for instant high quality temporary repairs. 

Bitucrete is cold applied and therefore safe 

to handle. 

Available in a variety of grades, Bitucrete 

can be used for footway repairs, patching, 

reinstatements and temporary surfacing. 

Bitucrete provides an immediate cure for 

potholes in car parks, roads, drives, factory 

floors and many other surfaces. 

Bitucrete is a combination of penetration 

grade bitumens, additives and selected 

aggregates. High PSV granite or basalt 

aggregate makes it suitable for all classes 

of road and footway. Available in black and 

red. 

Where to use? 

• Fills worn areas in paths and drives 

• Patches potholes in bituminous surfaces 

• Reinstates trenches in lightly trafficked surfaces 

• Provides temporary ramping off for high kerbs 

and exposed ironwork 

Bitucrete has a storage life of up to six months in 

sealed bags and under good storage conditions. 

Bags are batch numbered for easy stock rotation. 

Preparation 

Ensure that the surface to be repaired is clean 

and free from loose material, oil, grease and 

standing water. 

Prime base surface with Colas Leotak tack 

coat. Edges of the area to be repaired should 

be formed vertically as far as possible and then 

treated with Colas Bitukold or RS Bitukold 

edge sealant prior to forming joints. For small 

potholes, Bitukold or RS Bitukold may be 

used over the surface area of the hole as 

a tack coat. 

Workability can be ensured even in cold 

weather by simply manipulating the 

Bitucrete in its sealed bag. 

N.B: To aid workability of bagged Bitucrete in 

winter, store bags in a warm area (>10°C ambient 

temperature) for 24 hours prior to use if possible. 

Application 

Tip sufficient Bitucrete from the bag to over-fill 

the hole, ensuring that all corners are filled. 

Compact the material to the surrounding level 

using a compactor, roller or hand tamper 

depending on the nature of the site. For large 

areas use a vibrating plate or roller slightly 

wetting the drum with water. If under-filling 

has taken place, simply add more product 

and compact to level. Material should not 

be laid any deeper than 2 1 ⁄2 times the size 

of the nominal stone in any one layer. 

The repair will withstand immediate heavy 

trafficking. However, where the repair is to be 

crossed by fork-lift trucks and HGVs, extra 

compaction and curing time must be allowed. 

Bitucrete remains flexible for some time after 

application. As the material will take up the 

contours of potholes naturally and form an 

immediate repair, it is ideal for irregularly 

shaped potholes. 

Curing is brought about by both air drying and 

compaction. The rate of cure is dependent 

upon temperature as well as the weight and 

volume of traffic. However, under normal traffic 

conditions, Bitucrete will not depress, track or

shows the approximate rate of spread of 

various compacted thicknesses of Bitucrete. 

Please note that the covering capacity of 

Bitucrete may be affected by such factors 

as the density and grading of the aggregates, 

condition of the substrate and final state of 

compaction. On more irregular substrates, 

heavier rates of spread are to be expected. 

Storage 

Keep free from frost and extremes of heat. 

Standards 

Bitucrete complies with BS EN 13108-1:2006 

Bituminous mixtures. Material specifications 

for Asphalt concrete. Bitucrete is suitable for 

temporary ramping of exposed ironwork as 

required in Clause 917 of the Specification 

for Highway Works.

Colpatch 

Instant long lasting repairs 

Colpatch is a storage grade macadam 

that is ideal for instant, high quality repairs 

to bituminous or concrete surfaces. 

Available in 6mm and 10mm grades, 

Colpatch can be used for carriageway and 

footway repairs, patching, reinstatements 

and temporary surfacing. 

Colpatch provides an immediate solution to 

potholes in roads, drives, car parks and 

many other surfaces. 

Colpatch is a combination of penetration 

grade bitumens, additives and selected 

aggregates. 

Why use Colpatch? 

Safe and Easy to use. 

Colpatch has a long storage life, up to two years. 

Colpatch is cold applied and safe to handle. 

No mixing is required.

To achieve a long lasting repair it is 

recommended that the base surface is primed 

with Colas Leotak. Vertical edges of the area to 

be repaired should be formed as far as possible 

and then treated with a Colas Bitukold edge 

sealant prior to forming joints. For small 

potholes, Bitukold may be used over the surface 

area of the hole as a tack coat. However a quick 

repair can be performed without any cutting out, 

tackcoats or edge sealants. 

Application 

Apply sufficient Colpatch to over-fill the area 

to be reinstated, ensuring that all corners are 

filled by gently needing the material with a 

shovel to evenly spread it across the full area. 

Compact the material to the surrounding 

level using a hand tamper or compactor/roller. 

For large areas and deep sections, use a 

vibrating plate or roller slightly wetting the 

drum with water. If under-filling has taken place, 

simply add more product and 

compact to level. 

It is recommended that deep patches should be 

built up in 40-50mm compacted layers as this 

will result in better compaction being achieved.

Once compacted the Colpatch is ready to 

be trafficked. 

Colpatch remains flexible for some time after 

application. Because the material will take up 

the contours of potholes naturally and form 

an immediate repair, it is ideal for irregularly 

shaped potholes.

RS Bitukold 

RS Bitukold is a rapid setting, cold applied 

thixotropic bitumen emulsion designed for 

sealing vertical joints. 

The cationic formulation of RS Bitukold ensures 

a rapid set even in cold, damp conditions, with 

an initial cure taking place within 15 minutes. 

RS Bitukold is mainly used for the protection of 

new joints in freshly laid asphalt or macadam. 

Where to use? 

• Transverse or longitudinal vertical joints 

• Patch repairs 

• Trench reinstatements 

• Drain or manhole frames 

• Kerb channels 

Preparation 

Ensure that the surface is clean and free 

from loose material, oil, grease, standing 

water and weeds. 

Application 

RS Bitukold can be applied with a soft fibre 

or turks head brush. 

Alternatively it can be poured or spray applied 

through the Roadmaster Sprayer. 

RS Bitukold should be applied at a rate of 

0.7-1.5 kg/sqm; depending on the texture and 

porosity of the surface and the application method. 

Storage 

Protect from frost or extremes of heat. 

RS Bitukold has a storage life of up to six months 

in sealed buckets under good storage conditions. 

Roadmaster Sprayer designed exclusively for 

Colas for spraying RS Bitukold and Polykold. 

Standards

Shake can well and invert. 

Apply RS Bitukold Spray in even strokes 

with nozzle 200-300mm away from area to be 

treated. Ensure complete coverage. After use, 

spray briefly with can in upright position to 

clear nozzle. 

The coverage rate for RS Bitukold Spray should 

be 0.7-1.5kg/sq.m., depending on the texture and 

the porosity of the surface. 

Storage 


Caution: pressurised container, protect from 

sunlight. Do not pierce or burn even after 

use. Do not expose to temperatures 

exceeding 50ºC. Do not spray on a naked 

flame or any incandescent material. Keep 

out of reach of children.

RS Bitukold complies with BS 594987

Gripstrip 

Gripstrip is an antiskid, self adhesive, 

overbanding joint and crack sealing tape. 

Gripstrip consists of a bituminous compound 

modified with elastomers and fast bonding 

resins which is extruded and prefabricated. 

Gripstrip is extremely safe to use as the 

product requires no heating or mixing. 

Where to use? 

• Horizontal cracks in asphaltic roads 

• Transverse and longitudal joints 




Preparation 

Ensure that the joint or crack is dry, clean and 

free from dust, fuel and oil spillage. For best 

results use when ambient temperature is 15°C 

or above. Gripstrip should not be applied to 

cracks wider than 10mm unless the crack has 

been pre-filled with approved material such as 

Colas A2, N1, N2, or Leoseal R. 

Application 

Gripstrip is applied to the road surface 

manually or with a specially adapted trolley. 

It is self adhesive and the underside is 

protected by peel off backing paper. 

Heavy foot pressure should be applied to 

assist adhesion. Applied Gripstrip will 

become embedded through trafficking. 

Storage 

Keep in dry store under cover. 

Standards 

Gripstrip complies with the skid resistance 

value required by the new Roads and 

Streetworks Act. 

Packaging 

Gripstrip is supplied in a box with 2m x15m rolls.

Instant Road Repair 

(IRR) 

Instant Road Repair (IRR) is a BBA/HAPAS 

approved permanent cold lay surfacing 

macadam for first time permanent 

reinstatements and pothole repairs. 

The 10mm wearing course offers the 

benefits of an instant, first time permanent 

reinstatement, which when compacted, can 

be trafficked immediately. It is also suitable 

as a high quality temporary repair to 

potholes and reinstatement areas. 

Where to use? 

• Footways 

• Footpaths 

• Cycle tracks 

• Manx Roads 2 Type A, B and C 

Preparation 

Compact the back-fill and sub-base to specified 

depth below the existing wearing course. Ensure 

all compaction equipment is clean and the site 

clear of debris. 

Application 10mm 

Reinstatement requiring up to 100mm in 

depth can be achieved by using the 

layer-on-layer method. 

Apply the product to a depth of approximately 

45mm and compact to 30mm in order to 

achieve your first layer. 

Repeat the process to achieve the second layer. 

Finally apply a 60mm layer and compact to 

40mm to provide the final surface course. 

If overbanding is required, apply Gripstrip. 

Re-apply RS Bitukold Spray to vertical edges 

before the application of a new layer of Instant 

Road Repair. 

Storage 

Store in a cool dry place at temperatures 

between 2-35c. 

Shelf life in correct conditions for sealed 

goods is: 

Bags 1 month. 

Tubs 6 months. 

Standards

M60, part of the BBA/HAPAS Approved 

Ironwork Reinstatement System, is a rapid 

strength bedding mortar suitable for use

the addition of water. The product can be used 

from 10mm-75mm in one pass, with greater 

depths possible using the layer-upon-layer 

method. M60 achieves exceptional bond 

strength without the use of a primer.

Preparation 

All surfaces should be free from any 

contamination of oil, grease, paint etc. Remove 

all loose particles and work on a sound 

substrate. Pre-soak the area with clean water 

prior to application to aid bond. Remove ponded 

water before applying the product. 

Application 

Apply the bedding material over a pre-soaked 

area. Once mixed, M60 should be applied to a 

supporting structure within 4 minutes. Firm well 

into position using a float and allowing a 5mm 

excess thickness. Care must be taken to prevent 

voids in the bedding material. Exposed surfaces 

of the bedding material should be float finished, 

ensuring voids are filled. Remove loose materials 

and point the inside surface to a smooth finish. 

Storage 

Store in a dry place at temperatures between 

5-30C. 

Shelf life in correct conditions for sealed 

packaging is 6 months.

Quick Set Concrete 

(QC10) 

QC10, part of the BBA/ HAPAS Approved 

Ironwork Reinstatement System, is a rapid 

strength concrete. When used as a backfill 

concrete QC10 provides excellent lateral 

stability to the cover and frame significantly 

improving durability of the installation. QC10 

is a two-part pack containing special 

cements and graded aggregates. It only 

requires the addition of water to form a high 

strength concrete. 

Where to use? 

• Backfill of carriageway ironworks 

• Deep section repairs 

• Rapid post, sign, fence or barrier installation 

Preparation 

Good concrete practice should always be 

observed, to enable the mix to be placed into 

position within 4 minutes. Remove all loose 

debris, oil and grease and any other 

contaminants and work on a sound substrate, 

pre-wet area with water. 

Mixing 

QC10 should be mixed by forced action mixer 

or by vigorous hand mixing with appropriate 

tool. Mix the inner bag containing the cement 

with the sand/aggregate. Add between 1-2 litres 

of water and mix thoroughly. A stiff consistent 

mix should be achieved. It is essential that this 

product is not over watered, add a small 

amount of water and mix gradually until a stiff 

concrete consistency is achieved. 

Application 

Apply material over pre-wetted area with a float 

and within 4 minutes of mixing to 40mm below 

the required surface fill level-compact ensuring 

no voids are evident. 

Storage 

Store in a dry place at temperatures between 

5-30˚C. 

Shelf life in correct conditions for sealed bags 

is 6 months.

Bitumen and Binders 

Penetration Grades 

Penetration grade bitumens are 

manufactured and delivered to meet UK 

specification EN12591. 

Bitumens are available in bulk by road tanker 

from Colas (IOM) Ltd. 

Designation is by penetration range eg 100/150 

pen bitumen has a penetration that ranges from 

100 to 150 decimillimetres (dmm). 

The majority of penetration grade bitumens 

produced are used in road construction. 

Heated storage tanks are required for the 

storage of these materials. 

Bitumens should always be stored at the lowest 

temperature consistent with their efficient use. 

Where heating is taking place, tank circulation is 

recommended to avoid localised over heating. 

It is further recommended that circulation 

returns are passed back into the bitumen and 

not dropped through air, so avoiding air 

entrapment and consequent oxidation. If it is 

necessary to store the binder for an extended 

period, say more than a week, the binder 

temperature should be reduced to 50 – 70ºC.

Leopave 

Leopave is a ready to use, cold hand applied 

slurry seal. It is a combination of bitumen 

emulsion and fine aggregate which provides 

an economical method of sealing lightly 

trafficked surfaces. 

The fine grain, sand-like texture reduces the 

risk of slipping. 

Where to use? 

• Driveways 

• Footpaths 

• Car parks 

• Play areas 

Preparation 

Ensure the surface to be treated is free from 

weeds, standing water and oil spillage. All dust, 

dirt and loose material must be swept from the 

surface immediately before application. 

Patch any potholes with Colas Bitucrete bagged 

macadam and fill narrow cracks with Colas 

Leoseal R or a Leoseal R sand mortar mixture. 

Use masking tape to achieve a neat finish and 

protect kerbs, etc. from splashes. 

Application 

Application should be carried out only in good 

drying conditions i.e. dry and warm (usually 

between April to September). Care must be 

taken if applying in cold, damp or humid 

conditions as the curing of the emulsion will 

be affected. 

It is important to stir the contents of the bucket 

thoroughly prior to use. If the surface is dry and 

absorbent, it should be dampened with water 

before application begins. If applying Leopave to 

concrete or cementitious surfaces, the surface 

should be primed with Colas Leotak. 

Pour the material onto the surface. Spread 

Leopave in one direction with a notched 

squeegee to obtain an even coverage. 

Immediately the Leopave starts to turn from 

brown to black, lightly drag a dampened, soft 

bristled broom across the ridges left by the 

squeegee, to leave an even finish. The resulting 

fine brush marks will wear in over time, 

depending on site trafficking. 

Protect the newly treated surface until the 

Leopave has hardened. Leopave will resist 

foot traffic after 2 hours of being applied, 

depending on the film thickness, ambient 

temperature and drying conditions. Where 

possible, avoid vehicle traffic on new Leopave 

for 2-3 days after laying. 

The rate of coverage for Leopave is 5 - 7sqm per 

20kg or 250 – 350sqm per Contractors Pack 

depending on the texture of the surface. 

Application to open surfaces as well as freshly 

laid reinstatements will reduce the coverage rate 

of the Leopave. If a thickness greater than 1.5mm 

is required, several thin coats should be applied, 

with each individual coat being allowed to dry 

before the application of the next one. 

Storage 

Protect from frost. 

Packaging 

Leopave is supplied in 20kg plastic buckets 

or 1 tonne Contractors Packs (40 x 25kg sacks).

Leotak 

Leotak is a cold applied rapid-acting 40% 

cationic bitumen emulsion. When cured 

Leotak forms a thin but uniform film of 

bitumen on the road surface which gives 

an adhesive bond between a bituminous 

overlay and an existing surface. 

For best results, tack coating is strongly 

recommended when performing such 

tasks as overlaying with hot rolled asphalt, 

macadam or when patching or carrying out 

inlaid work.

Leotak adheres exceptionally well, even in damp 

conditions. The overlay is held securely in place 

and the entry of water between road pavement 

courses is hindered. 

Preparation 

Surface to be treated must be free from weeds, 

standing water, loose materials and oil spillage. 

Application 

Leotak should be sprayed or hand applied 

between 0.3 and 0.6 litres per square metre 

(depending on the texture, porosity etc of the 

surface) to give the thinnest film consistent with 

complete coverage. 

• 1 x 25kg container should cover at least 40sqm 

• 1 x 200kg drum should cover at least 320sqm 

Vehicular traffic should be kept off the treated 

area until the emulsion has fully broken (colour 

changes from brown to black). When emulsion 

has fully broken then apply the overlay. 

Storage 


Protect from frost. Drums should be rolled 

frequently to avoid separation. For further 

information please refer to BS434: Part 2: 

2006 Section 5; Clause 5.2. ‘Storage’. 

Standards 

Leotak complies with BS EN 13808 : 2005 for

Surfix 80S 

Surfix 80S is an intermediate grade polymer 

modified cationic bitumen emulsion. By using 

selected emulsifying agents with a suitable 

emulsion grade penetration bitumen it has 

been specifically designed for use as a hot 

applied surface dressing binder. 

When compared to unmodified binders, 

Surfix 80S has the following advantages: 

• Conventional surface dressing binders may 

lack the cohesive strength necessary to retain 

chippings under the extra shear stress 

imposed on road surfaces by vehicles braking 

or turning sharply. It is the addition of polymer 

which gives the improved properties of Surfix 

80S and its enhanced performance 

• At storage temperatures of 80ºC polymer 

degradation is minimal, unlike the problem of 

hot fluxed polymer binders which are sprayed 

at temperatures of 165ºC or more 

• The method by which Surfix 80S polymer 

modified binder is manufactured enables 

maximum improvements in properties to be 

obtained from economic proportions of 

polymer. It is not just the percentage of polymer 

that yields improvements in the binder, but the 

type and way that it is incorporated into the 

bitumen system – this is why Surfix 80S is so 

cost effective and can be 

used for most types of road surface dressing 

programmes. 

Surfix 80S is loaded into clean road tankers at 

or near the spraying temperature. Care must be 

taken during subsequent heating to ensure that 

the binder is thoroughly circulated and that the 

temperature does not exceed 90ºC. Above this 

temperature there is a danger of severe frothing 

which may result in spillage and possible non 

compliance with the specification. 

Application 

Surfix 80S should be applied at the correct 

rate of spread to the road surface by calibrated 

spray tankers to conform to BS1707 (Hot Binder 

Distributors for Surface Dressing). 

The surface dressing works should be in 

accordance with the recommendations 

contained in Road Note 39 and the Road 

Surface Dressing Associations Code of Practice 

and Guidance Notes. As a guide, rates of spread 

are generally in agreement with Road Note 39, 

Chippings must be uncoated, of good quality, 

dust free and conforming to BS EN13043.’

Sundry Products 

Cleaning 

Leoclean is an exceptionally safe cleaner 

and degreaser, formulated from derivatives 

of orange oils and a synthesised mineral 

oil with a flash point of 69°C. 

Leoclean contains no harmful ingredients. 

It is non-toxic to humans, animals, birds 

and marine life. 

It can replace red diesel, chlorinated and 

paraffin based solvents in most applications, 

thus offering a safer alternative for effective 

cleaning and degreasing. 

Leoclean is ideal as a heavy duty cleaner for 

removing mineral oil based problems such as 

bitumen, tar, asphalt, grease and carbon. It will 

remove waxes, adhesives, uncured paint and 

varnish, and also oil based inks. 

Leoclean will help clean up creosote, chewing 

gum, sealants and other mastics. It is ideal for 

cleaning oil spills off hard surfaces, cleaning 

combustion engines, parts washing, tank 

cleaning and adhesive residue removal. 

Leoclean is suitable for most surfaces. It is 

completely safe on all metals, composite plastics, 

ceramics, acrylics, concrete, brick, stone, glass, 

wood and painted surfaces. It will not affect any 

cured resins and is safe on most fabrics. 

However, care should be taken when using on 

silk, leather and some rubbers. Vulcanised 

rubber is unaffected. Care must be taken on 

porous surfaces as Leoclean will tend to allow 

absorption of the contaminant into the surface. 

Application 

Apply Leoclean sparingly onto affected area, 

and allow it to soak into the contaminant. The 

softened or dissolved residue should then be 

removed with absorbent material. Repeat the 

process if necessary. Remove softened residue 

off porous surfaces as soon as possible to 

reduce absorption. 

Leoclean has a slower evaporation rate 

than chlorinated solvent. Where production 

processes require speed, drying can be 

enhanced by heat and/or high air (but not 

naked flames) and/or vacuum. 

Storage 

Store in original container wherever possible. 

Protect from direct sunlight. 

The following is applicable to Leoclean in 

aerosol containers only. 

Caution pressurised container, protect from 

sunlight. Do not pierce or burn even after use. 

Do not expose to temperatures exceeding 

50ºC. Do not spray on naked flame or any 

incandescent material. Keep out of reach 

of children. 

Packaging 

Leoclean is available in 25 litre and 5 litre 

plastic containers, 500ml aerosols as well as 

200 litre drums.

Flags 

Colas stock a wide selection of Manx flags and 

bunting. We are also able to order flag poles

20kg bags of road salt are available from the 

stores. These are ideal during frosty conditions 

for private driveways, car parks or lanes. Storage 

bins are also stocked.

Various selections of convex and concave traffic 

mirrors are available on request. 

Tools 

A selection of hand tools for the application 

of macadam and binders are stocked. These

Billown Lime Quarries Ltd was formed in 

1924 to give identity to quarrying activities 

that have gone on in the Ballasalla area 

since the 17th century. 

Our modern crushing and screening equipment 

enables us to supply a comprehensive range of 

roadstone and screened aggregate products. 

We operate the only private sector bitumen 

macadam coating plant on the island. With an 

output of 120 tonnes per hour, the plant 

manufactures macadam to customers' 

requirements with a minimum of waiting time.

Situated at Cross Four Ways in Ballasalla, 

Billown Lime Quarry manufactures a wide 

range of limestone aggregates. From its 

location the limestone aggregate is 

extracted from the quarry face and 

processed into various sizes.

Lime is an important part of agricultural management of the land. It helps maintain soil fertility

The blocks are available in a standard face 

size (suitable for rendering) of 440x215mm 

and in thickness of 100mm with average 

density of 1800kg/m 3. Also available is a 

close textured finish which is suitable for

Concrete “Dumpy” blocks 

To compliment our dense concrete block, 

C.Kniveton have introduced the new 

“Dumpy” block. 

Due to the requirements of the Building 

Regulations part E, there are circumstances 

where the use of a 140mm wide dense 

concrete block is the best solution to meet 

these requirements. There is also pressure 

to reduce the mass of individual units to 

below 20kg. 

The “Dumpy” block has been designed to 

satisfy both requirements and is available in 

290x215x140mm sizes. The “Dumpy” blocks 

have a compressive strength of 7N/mm 2 and a 

density of 1800kg/m 3. Further strength options 

are available on request.
