used, the cutting tool blades shall overlap the<br />

previous cut on each move and each cut shall<br />

penetrate the course <strong>for</strong> its full thickness.<br />

6.22.3 The surface <strong>of</strong> the exposed material below<br />

shall be thoroughly cleared <strong>of</strong> all loose fragments<br />

and cleaned, using high-pressure water and<br />

vacuum extraction, or as directed by the Project<br />

Manager.<br />

6.22.4 Replacement shall not begin until the<br />

Project Manager has approved the conditions <strong>of</strong><br />

cleanliness <strong>of</strong> the base.<br />

6.22.5 When the level <strong>of</strong> the pavement is to be<br />

raised by 20 mm or more, saw cutting shall be<br />

omitted.<br />

6.23 REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE OR<br />

OLD SURFACING<br />

6.23.1 A tack coat in accordance with Clause 6.10<br />

shall be applied over the exposed base, care being<br />

taken to include all corners, angles and<br />

irregularities. The exposed vertical faces <strong>of</strong> the<br />

surfacing shall be painted with bitumen.<br />

6.23.2 The replacement surfacing shall comply<br />

with the specified course thicknesses shown on the<br />

drawings and tolerances specified in Clause 5.4,<br />

and with the standards detailed in this <strong>Specification</strong>.<br />

6.24 FILLING CORE HOLES<br />

The walls and base <strong>of</strong> all holes from which core<br />

samples have been cut are to be painted with<br />

bitumen and filled with the specified surfacing<br />

material, well rammed in lifts not exceeding 50 mm.<br />
